    ide speed sux

i think that the vs.net ide sux big time. i am on a toshiba p3 1.0ghz 256 mb and the time it takes for a windows form to load in the ide is more than two minutes !!! and everytime i make changes and save, another minute. everytime i stop debugging another two minutes. and once in while the program whirrs and whirrs for five minutes and stops responding. god this got to stop. increasing page cache to 1.5gb didnt help. do i need to upgrade my memory to 512mb ? is it my system or the ide ?

something's wrong with your installation or your harddrive.

The IDE runs on my pIII laptop pretty well. It's slower than VS 6, but it's nowhere near what you're describing.

I'm also running it on a pIII 1Ghz and its pretty slow compared to VS6 on a pII/400, but as Scott said, its not as slow as what you are experiencing.
Aww screw it. I didn't really want to fool with it anymore anyhow.

I must say thats pretty wierd, my IDE runs smooth as silk, compiles fast and displays fast, what type of hardware is everyone running? I am not running anything special, PIII 833, 1gb of Ram, all SCSI drives, ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon, nothing out of the ordinary.

I think it might be the installation, I had that problem once, and after I did full format of my system and installed it again it now runs silky smooth.

    I have VS.Net running on 2 systems.

    Desktop: p4 1.7 ghz with 512mb ram

    Laptop: p3 500mhz with 192mb ram

Both systems are running windowsXP and the speed for VS.NET is very acceptable.

I hope you are not using beta1 VS .NET...That was very slow and a piece of junk IMO..

If you do have beta1...trash it and find AT LEAST beta2..Final if you can afford it(or find a download :wink :wink)

    Talking

I run Final release on a AMD 1.3 ghz 512MB RAM and 2 IDE disks and my speed is just great. BTW Beta2 also sux, has no real use since it uses an old framework.

I've got the same slow problem too here.

I'm running on an Intel 1.7 GHz with 256 Mb Ram and I experience those slow compilations and startup of VS too.

Can anyone think of a solution ?

    Thanks,

    Bjorn

Use a registry cleaner and clean out the registry. There might still be redundant data in there, or you can do a full format and install again.

I do this every 4 months to keep my system running at optimum performance.
