    Faking Windows Drives....

I'd like to be able to fake windows into thinking there is a drive that doesn't exist, and also make windows think that the imaginary drive has an imaginary directory structure filled with imaginary files.

    Is this possible?

    Hack,

Tut, tut. Ours is not to question why, but to do!

    Chaoticmass,

I presume you want to create a virtual drive, like the type some digital camera drivers use. I have come across stuff to do this berfore and it is not easy.

It involves shell extensions, and activeX dll's with custom type libraries and some registry knowledge.

One of the best resources for research and examples can be found at :-

Look under the Shell Extensions section.

The example from the web site I gave was fixed on the 31/3/2002. The fixes were to do with Windows ME and XP. Try downloading again and make sure you get the updated Typelibs.

Yeah I wrote him a mail and he updated it. Have tried it and it works.

Just not the way I want it to...
The most important thing is that it should appear correctly in the "Open file", "Save file" etc. making Windows believe that it can save to the "disk". When doing so the DLL should receive the contents of the file and do some fancy stuff :-)

The fancy stuff is the easy part, but how do I make Windows think it is a folder containing files? Now that's a tough one..
