I just read a post in which I gleaned some very valuable information about low cost alternative for the VB deployment wizard so I thought I'd try my luck and see if anyone has a similar suggestion for a low cost yet easy to use help compiler.

I spent an hour on the free microsoft one and I realised I didn't want to go to that much trouble afterall. RoboHelp and the like would be fine except they are a bit too much for my liking.

Unfortunately none of the inhouse development I have done has had "standard" help - it seems that the project managers like to cut those particular costs and go with a word document or something.

This is the first project I'm doing for myself that I want to polish for general release. Therefor, any suggestions will be welcome.

A good place to look is http://www.softseek.com

I found several help compilers and assemblers and the like although I have to admit they were not the best quality.

I have used both RoboHelp and HDK and the thing I realised is that everyone is aware of the shortage of help compilers so that anyone who makes one will charge for it... those that don't simply don't provide you with a decent product.

    Its sad but true
