The easiest one to understand I reckon is in MSDN under Winsock control.
I've been playing around with the winsock control lately as well, I started off with the example in MSDN, and now I've almost completed a full IM program with the ability to remotely shutdown computers and run programs. It connects when you send, and closes when its sent, so theres no need to have a "connect" button. Its all done by the "send" button.
I use the shutdown bit to shutdown my NAT machine so I don't have walk around to it at night. Maybe later on WOR and WOL can be added as well...
