Seperate General PC forum
Hi,
I see there are many forums for programming and stuff, but I can't see a forum for general PC problems. General VB Questions is getting some, and so is Chit Chat. Both of which (IMO) really shouldn't have those types of topics in as they are off topic and get lost in conversations that should be in the forum anyway...
So my suggestion: A new forum for PC/Mac problems that aren't programming related
What do people think?

i agree with that as well, but the thing is this is a programming forum and not a hardware forum
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Yeah I know it's a programming forum but people are posting hardware questions as well, and they are getting lost in a mixture of other forums, so it would be better if there was an off-the-cuff forum for this kinda thing

when are you guys going to get the hint.
This has been asked so many times in the past and they have said no to all of them. this is a programming forum not a hardware fourm.
but if your intention is to ask them till they crack then maybe they will give, but I doubt it.

Yeah but it would still be nice if we could have one HERE as the folks here are knowledgable and it would mean that we could use the knowledge of the current members to help us rather than go to other forums where nobody knows each other. It's always better to ask a friend for help than a stranger

If you look at most of the hardware forums out there, they do have a general programming section of some sort..

I don't think we should. VBWorld is a Visual Basic site first and foremost. Therefore, I think it would be beyond the scope of this site to create all sorts of other forums.
The main reason I keep coming back to this site is that I know it is about Visual Basic and not too much other confusing stuff.
It is an excellent idea to create such a discussion forum and I certainly would visit it myself to answer questions, like I do on here. I enjoy helping people, and God knows, some of them need it.
I just think that this is the wrong site for such a forum. (You probably disagree with me, but I don't care as long as I agree hahaha).
Good Idea; set up a new site for it.

There is one, hosted by Dimava of this site:
http://www.pchelp.bz/
But further still, with the new administration here the admins WILL listen to us. So these new ideas have hope now. Keep campaining buddies, you have my vote!
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.

HaxSoft more or less hit the jackpot, here, but I'll bring this up with the other admins anyway, and get back to you guys shortly.

Ok i think i see the problem "Ppl want a place where they can ask programming, tech support etc problems in 1 spot not have to sign up to 10 different forums to get an answer".
But this would be nearly impossible to achieve because it would be "jack of all master of none".
Perhaps some sort of aliance between certain sites (i.e programming, gaming and tech support) where you can register with one and become a member of 3 or so if you so choose!
And those sites part of this would have 2 or so forums added to the bottom that linked to the other forums in the aliance!

I think a general hardware forum is a good idea.
Of course, this is a programming/vb website, and the main topic is programming, but a hardware forum on the side shouldn't hurt. The focus would still be on programming.
Just about every hardware forum I've seen, if not all of them, do have a general programming forum. Their general focus is still on hardware, but there still is a spot for programming questions. These side forums don't get nearly as much traffic as the main ones, of course, but they serve their purpose.

One of the points I was trying to make in my previous post was that I think the people that maintain this excellent forum should keep it excellent. One requirement in doing so is that they always ask themselves questions like:
"What is the objective of this site?"
"What is the target group for this site?"
"What is the scope of this site?"
There are probably many other questions one could ask.
Now, in my view, the suggested forum is NOT within the scope of this site. But let's remember that this is not my site, so it's not up to me to decide. I am just trying to help the administrators of VBWorld decide whether they want to include such a forum or not, and suggest some criteria to base their decision on.
I think Beacon has a good suggestion, namely setting up a new site and let it cooperate with VBWorld. That way this site can keep the name VBWorld, which clearly suggests Visual Basic, to me anyway.
The alternative is mixing everything up and end up with a site that deals with everything. VBWorld would be renamed www.vb_and_other_stuff_world.com or something like that.
My philosophy is to keep things separated and then let them interact with one another when required. Modularization principles ... put the right routines in the right modules. Let each routine do a single job and do it well.
Just my two cents...

I agree that the hardware forum is a good idea.
Even though this is a vb programming forum, within the membership there is a wealth of experience in all aspects of software and hardware, and I can see no harm in giving people the opportunity to share in and benefit from other members experiences.

there are already far too many forums. This is a programming site (primarily a VB one at that - the highest of high level languages), not a hardware one

To the people who don't like this idea, I suggest you look at the poll. Sometimes even your most strongly held views are wrong.
And most people, who have voted, think you are wrong.
