Australia's Games

Not content with winning the Summer Olympics in a canter, Australia has now gone on to head the Winter Olympic medal tally* ... 2 Gold! Great Britain is resting its hopes on the curling team

    * Southern hemisphere only. Results may or may not be a true indication of actual results.

Well, I am completely neutral on the matter. I saw the 2nd one this morning, and I must say, I was duly unimpressed...*

*Attitude taken here reflects previous attitude and comments, not actual emotion derived from said Aussie success

We're beating Austria was the last i heard. 11 medals and 2 gold!

So out of 28 team members we have 11 members so far with either bronze, silver or gold just for an example Austria has 150+ team members.
I dont care if we dont win another medal for a country with no real consistent snow we are doing a pretty good job.

emm beaker.. i think the 11 medals may be the total since 1930 or somethng .. they have only won 2 medals both gold and yes we are beating the Austrians and their snowbound hills are alive, how do you solve a problem like maria attitude.

No, that Self basting Chicken lady .. emm Zali Steggles got a bronze in Nagano (please pronounce with very military sounding japanese voice) and they said that the Fall Guy also got one in a team event but not sure if it was Nagano or that French one... what was that called again???

I thought the 1000 mens speed skating gold was the epitomy of Australian sporting exellence. I mean the guy barely makes it into the final, then whamo everyone crashes in the midst of a bit of argie bargie.... except the Aussie skater who was too slow to keep up who is them able to amble across the line to the most hard fought gold medal of all time. Of course in the interview afterwards the Aussie put it all down to "cunning tactics"; yeah right!

    Nuculus... u sound almost bitter...
Hey the guy didnt claim he had a chance of winning, said he didnt deserve it in the circumstances, was happy to take a bit of luck .. and is very 'unsmug' about the whole thing... If it does epitomise Australian sport then it is because the guy could see the funny side of it. He is good for sport... a symbol of the meaning of it .. and a good ambassador for sportsmanship.

Surprisingly , the american seemed pretty ok with it (espec considering his injury) but the Canadian looked right royally pissed off on the dais... we drop our dacks to ya !!

PooeyBum, or at least that's what the Canadians called you and your little bumchum rj after your incredibly intelligent demonstration. Apparently a good ambassador would have reliquished his gold medal to someone more deserving

This is how we would do it

wonder why we should go
wonder how the hell we are going to get there
wonder where the hell the money will come from
argue with the skating federation about payments
struggling to get in the Winter games
getting there eventually by sheer luck or lack of competitors
showing up at the start with the intent to "possibly, if we're lucky, get the bronze"
win the gold and then stating it was "big piece of luck"
be happy with the medal and be greeted as a real hero
of course, we didn't make it past number 5 this year

Kiss my ample sized watermelon and keep it simple you silly convict... Ohno was judged second so he should get the gold which also makes up for the 6 stiches he recieved in the fall.

I almost forgot, the Aussie won his semi-final in the same way he won the final, what a sporting super-hero.

    Wait a minute !
We have athletes in the Winter Games !
    Well ..
    Err ...
Exiled Dutch skaters who couldn't and wouldn't face the stiff competition in Holland. They quickly became Belgians because here they have no real competition and we all of a sudden have olympic athletes.

It's a bit like imported beer : It's not home grown but it tasted good anyway

You are wrong there!! Only 3 fell in the semis and he came in second 4 fell in the final... and yes he is a super hero... but sorta like the hulk or something who cant control it and then ends up standing on a few tanks.

Ok, spinning my magic globe now....

    Pointing finger randomly....

    Niue it is...

Background: Niue's remoteness, as well as cultural and linguistic differences between its Polynesian inhabitants and those of the rest of the Cook Islands, have caused it to be separately administered. The population of the island continues to drop (from a peak of 5,200 in 1966 to 2,100 in 2000) with substantial emigration to New Zealand.
That'll give us something to work with.

Well, right there - emigrating to New Zealand - that's a great start......

    What Euro Parliament Thingy ?
That huge building where half of Brussels errrm "work" ?

    A story eh ...

How about the guards story ?

There was a guard (walloon) standing outside a conference room and a walloon excellency wandered in smoking.
Guard says : "Please sir, no smoking allowed in here"
Excellency says : "Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that. I'll put it out immediately. Thank you"
A few days later, same excellency, other guard (flemish this time).
    Excellency wanders in smoking.
Guard says : "Please sir, no smoking allowed in here"
Excellency looks at him as if he were a turd and throws his cigarette stub on the ground and puts it out haughtily. Next he blows smoke in the guards face and enters without a word of thank you.
Guard complains to his boss and got told off because he dared questioning a European dignitary

PS: all actors were Belgian and all spoke french at the occasion.

    Welcome to Belgium

You just can't see good tactics can you...totally out classed in his heat, hung back, got through on some one dis-qualified. Thought no problems do the same in the quarters and semis...straight through, then (and this is the class of the man), thought l'll do the same in the final, let the heros go out hard and cruise past them in the final straight. He had it covered. Of course it did help that the first five contestants were clearly pissed at the time.

Only three more gold and we head the medal tally, hopefully there are some aussies up against the seppos or kanaks, you could bet the house on it..

    BB

The french seem to be getting off lightly..
