VS.NET Installation <<Resolved>>

Hey all, i just installed VS.NET Enterprise edition, downloaded from MSDN. After over an hour of installing, which i was prepared for, I tried to start up a new VB.net project and got the following error:

Default.js or default.vbs not found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\VB7\WindowsApplication\Scripts\1033

***?? I have searched all of the installation CDs and cant find either. Has anyone else run into this problem? Would anyone be inclined to send me these files?

You have some real problems my friend I have Visual Studio.NET Enterprise Architect and just did a search for that file and came up with 132 results for Default.js

Sorry, I have misspoken, i also have many Default.js files, but NO default.vbs files. Could you search your installation for this one?

Nothing on my hard drives with that name either, cant see why you need them but we do have different versions of VS.NET

This is really odd.. Where did you get your copy from? I DLed the iso's from MSDN via my companies subscription. Did you do the same, or did you purchase the software from a retailer?

I downloaded the 7 iso's from MSDN.

Try putting in the first cd. When I loads choose to install
it again. I should do a repair. I had the same problem with
some other missing files and this fixed it. Although I have
Ent Arc edition it should still work...

I, too, have the same exact problem. I even tried the repair option to no avail. Any other suggestions?

I downloaded the cd's from MSDN and it ran fine for me, what OS are you trying to install this on? After the install is finished does it say "Setup was completed with no errors" or something else? If there was an error it should tell you. Also, you may want to look in the Event Viewer under Admin Tools, it should also tell you if it encountered an error and what/where the error is.

I am installing on WinXP Pro.. When the installation was complete, it did say "Completed with NO errors"... I did not choose to register online at that time... could that be the problem?

I tried to install on Windows 2000. It said it was completed with no errors.

I searched the knowledge base, and this was listed as a known bug, but only if you had different languages installed on your system, which I don't.

Maybe I should just give up, and go into jackhammering instead.

I didnt register...

What I suggest is try Un-installing and then re-installing.

If that wont work, then as a last resort I'd download
it again.... There's always a chance your copy is currupt.

Ok.. here is the story.. I have registered.. repaired and then reinstalled.. nothing. Still getting the same problem. I found a M$ Knowledgebase article regarding the issue, but it was way off base.. It said that this occurs when you install the German version of VB.NET but the english version of C++.NET and its a conflict of your primary language.. well, i only installed in english but I still took their steps for resolution with no avail..

Any other suggestions?

Well.. I dont even have the dir: WindowsApplication\Scripts\1033

Mine is Bin\1033\

And theres only a dll in there.

I have one last suggestion. Look for the file your missing,
and compare it with the others, Size, date last modified etc.
If they're all the same then just copy one over to that dir.

One last thing, do you have any of the beta's installed?
If so uninstall them. Then re-install the newest one you have.
Also search your install files for the missing file(S).

Thanks for the input Jes|er.. unfortunatly, I have not Default.vbs, and no one else seems to have it either. In the directory that is says it cant find Default.js or Default.vbs, there IS a file called default.js.. its right there!! I havent had any betas installed on this particular machine either..

I am going to try to install the Architect version of the software and see if I get the same results..

Well.. i have reinstalled, uninstalled and then installed and repaired my installation.. same error each time.. this is nutts.. So no one else has seen this problem?

The files it says it cant find ARE in that directory.. ***?

Try posting your problem here:

microsoft.public.dotnet.general

or maybe ever here:

microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb

Alot of the developers from m$ often reply to problems there.

If your news server dosnt have it yet use: msnews.microsoft.com

This is a rather strange issue. Its a long shot, and not sure if
you really want to, but you could always try reinstalling XP.

Other then that I'm out of idea's.....

Hey there.. I went ahead and installed the enterprise architect version of VS.NET.. the installation took under an hour, was very easy and everything is working!! Maybe those Enterprise edition iso's i dled were corrupted.. who knows. At least it works.

Then change you programming groups name as dotNET will confuse with .NET.

Well.. i really didnt have a choice, per say.. My company DLed the software from msdn and they guy burning the discs did Enterprise first.. so naturally, i took what was first available.. But not that he got Architect out to us, i am using that..

Tell me, what are the benefits of each. Is there anything in enterprise that is not in architect?

anyone used Visio.NET yet?

Actually Architecht is the higher end version of .NET, take a look here to see the differences:

Excellent, so it seems like the architect version does nothing but build on the enterprise edition.. very nice.. I am happy with it.. But its been so long since i started programing in beta2 that i need to re-learn everything i knew.. hard to believe that in created complete apps in beta2 and now, 4 months later, i dont know where to start.. oh well

Wow.. sorry to hear that you lost everything... what is this Daemon Tools? is it free? I guess it, in temp files, extracts the ISO and installs it then deletes its temp files.. thats pretty slick! I may try that with the old copy of .NET Enterprise that didnt install properly for me

It actually works better than what you imagine, it doesn't extract the iso's to temp it is a virtual cd/dvd rom that exists in My Computer just like actual hardware.
