I think for the resolution, we should just have the game change it
at start up of the game...

Oh, And I will be on the programming team

    I got another Idea, Maybe
have wagons and horses for the user to buy
horse: carry less stuff but goes faster
wagon: carrys more stuff but goes slower
horse(carrying items): carrys a few more(not as much as
the wagon) but goes the same speed w/out the horse

    Just a few ideas...

I would prefer to mostly do the programming though. The ranges are beacuse I am not certine if everyone who has posted will be involed in the areas.

Well i personally feel we have enough people to at least start the coding...what do you think?

Also, should I make a thread for the web pages?

Guybrush, our web-server people woun't create a second FTP account for acess to a sub-directory. We will be able to host the page on our local computers (we have DSL), or we can host them on a differnt server.

Let's host it on your DSL then. My webserver isn't working right now because I'm moving it. Can you send me some info?

We will have to set up the FTP server, and the router to allow for FTP acess (and HTTP). And since it is 12:46 AM here, I feel like going to bed...

Don't mind me, just ignor this

I played a game once (about a billion years ago) that would stop PvP probs from the outset. Newbies were limited to guild areas where death was not an option as fights were organised a little like a boxing match and usually against masters who pulled their punches.

You graduated when you won a fight.

They also had a formula that went something like ([EXP_stuff]/age) there were a few more clauses to it but it meant that older player while able to gain stacks of EXP (and thus use it as a "look at me, I'm good" thing) never the less started to top out. Much like in the real world your skill is gained while you are young after that it's just used and kept sharp.

You could do that here so even a newbie would have a chance against "jack-the-ripper of all games" long enogh to run away.

Set-up could further protect newbies with the idea of NPC usually called the watch but refered to as "town-cop-NPC" by people who use them.

just a thought, am happy to help if you need my story creation skills, sence of balance, inventivness, deapthinking or bad spelling.

BTW: that means I'm happy to run some seriouse brain time on design ideas.

    Smile Sound Interesting

    Hi,

I've just fall into this discussion by chance and... I must admit that I've always wanted to have a big project to go on! More than that a game project in vb

So am I too late to postulate for a game job? ehehe
More do you need someone else to help? I would like to be a part of that project with you.

I have my strong ability and weaknesses in vb

I can help in theses fields:

    Client And Server (winsock)

DirectX 8.1 - DirectMusic, DirectSound, DirectKeyBoard, DirectJoyStick (well everything in DirectX 8.1 except what's in the graphics part)

The Story if needed (but everyone can in this section eheh)

    A bit in algorithm optimisation
    Software engineering

    And I can't in theses:
Graphics and making music / sound from an instrument.
Html stuff (Well I can but only the Html - Javascript part)
I'm not really an artist - artist, but a Vb artist

Finally I think I can be use in various situation. Well it's up to you to decide if you need someone else.

If so contact me at [email protected] and we will discuss what you need, search and goal about this project and what I'm expecting from a programmer team.

    Thks

I will mostly do sound effects, as i am still learning programming. I can also do beta testing, and i know most stuff besides programming (photoshop, Milkshape/3ds max modelling, webmaster (if needed), making 3d maps (kinda like for Hl or such..) ) but right now my speciality would be sound making.

    So? Am i in?

[Edit: Forgot to mention, my e-mail is [email protected] ]

    PROTEST

DirectX is not necesary, you can do the same with Visual Basic and with some fine math. If you want the best try assembler

This project died like last year or something.
Maybe if you started it up again, more people would join?

I'd strongly recommend DirectX thought... if anyone is still working on it feel free to ask for my 2D-DirectX class supporting hardware rotations and lighting.

Wow, this thing looks slowed down or dead.

As much as I like the idea of an online Link to the Past game, I know that the networking aspect is the only confusing one. And since that's basically the entire POINT of the game I see trouble on the horizon.

(Fox McCloud: I've been trying to talk to you on ICQ but you won't even respond to me. What's up with that?)

I wonder something: Couldn't you pull off the networking aspect using VB's winsock controls? Everyone sends their location to the host computer and that computer sends the information to everyone. It would be easy and effective.

2D graphics are a breeze to program so there's no problems there. DirectX7 is pretty fast for 2D graphics but I've encountered alot of crashing with even the slightest bugs in the code. DirectX8 seems to make programming the simplest thing really, really long. BitBlt is the least anal of all the methods but it's kind of slow on the blitting.

All in all I think that the project could work if you had a few programmers willing to do their job and do it well, but that's alot easier said than done, yeah?

Good luck with the whole thing, guys. If there even is a thing anymore... XD
My attitude towards video game development can best be summed up this way: "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."
