The Great VB-World Software Hunt...
OK...here's my problem...
Next year, me and 4 of my mates will be sharing a house with a DSL connection. Obviously, we'd like to share the DSL connection between the 5 of us. Now, ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, as there are loads of Proxy Programs out there.
However, since a couple of us would like to be able to use our Linux boxes to access the internet at the same time as everyone elses Windows boxes, we'd like to find some (preferably free) cross platform proxy software. Our searches have so far proved fruitless, so I'm turning to VBForums for help.
BTW Setting up one of the Linux boxes as a proxy machine is not an option..
If anyone can help, I will give them a small monkey shaped like a fish with the head of a cow...
Cheers,
Jon

Install a router, or just use one of the windows boxes as the proxy

a router will make your network more secure too, they are harder to get through than without one

Yes, but then we'd have to buy a router. We are looking for a free solution, or at least one which costs under £20. Plenderj, any ideas on how to use the Windows box as a proxy???

I would have thought you would just have to set that one up, connect it to the 'net through the DSL. Then, under your TCP/IP properties set the DNS Server Host to the Name of the computer, and the DNS Server Search order to the IP of the Proxy Machine. Then under the gateway add the proxy server as a gateway.
Now, aren't you sorry you didn't just keep on scrolling?

I'm running Mandrake 8.1, and a router is not an option.
