Why are you susposed to use the same scales in chemistry

My chem teacher says your always susposed to use the same scale throughout your whole expiriment. Why?

ah the things we did (last semester) in chemistry. Our teacher was the coolest phsycopath you could ever meet. I thing we may have used about 3/4 of the science departments chemicles "just for fun" he would bring a few ballons and a tank of hydrogen and oxygen into class and "have fun". He got this cow prod (you know the electric ones) and proved to us that electricity will flow through a person by holding a neon light in the other hand and showing us that it lit up. "just for fun" then he couldn't figure out how to get the cow prod off without electrocuting himself and had to call in another teacher . He was from australia yet he insisted his accent was a colorado accent and for half the year had the people he didn't have the previous year (not including me) thinking that he named his kid slartibartfast.
