I, erm, aquired a DiVX movie file.

Problem is that it is 718 MB, bigger than one of my CDs. How can I burn it?

Either get a DVD burner, or make it a 2 parter.

are there credits on the movie. Try chopping useless footage off the ends. You can also overburn cd's by a bit. Just give me a minute and i will check how much

Overburning Tutorial

ok i take no responsability to what may happen because of this artical. Overburning may seriously damage your cd burner. It happens to work fine on my computer however i have heard stories of people frying thier cd burners. I don't think that thie will alot you 17 megs though.

if you do goto

there are a few things you should know though.

this will encode to VCD if you want SVCD in the last step just chose for a template NTSC SVCD instead of VCD. SVCD is higher quality but takes significantly longer to encode

For my file, there is black space above and below the actual content of the video to make it look letterbox. Obviously I don't need that stuff; how can I crop it out?

we have a thing going at school the blockbuster pool. We all throw in a buck and go get a movie. Someone takes it home and rips it then everyone shares. The person who rips it rotates for every movie

just reencode it at a lower bitrate

well depends on the movie... the DVD discs contain anything from 4-7gb on them, expect to need more

well ripping to SVCD is a **** way of doing it, just rip to a DiVX format and work out the file size from the lenght ot the movie, and encode at the highest bitrate you can to get it onto a 700Mb CD....

if you want to goto divx skip th elast step with tmpgenc (that is if you want to goto (s)vcd. and go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm .You have to get a very nice program called virtual dub it is worth getting it works very nicely with divx

here is a hint. You know how nero has that VCD and SVCD options. If you use those then it will run on most dvd players (well VCD will). Anyways if you have an 80 minute cd, you can drag and drop up to 800 mb of mpegs into nero and it will burn fine. If you are doing a dvd rip please PLEASE do not do a crime against humanity and put it on 1 disk the quality will suck. Put it on 2 disks and the quality will rule! but plan for 800 mb segments

I find the DivX codec is surprisingly useful; even with uncompressed audio 1 day and 19 hours is under 35gb

It's also a great way to tape stuff and put it onto CDs, I can't wait for the first "DivX ;-)" compliant VCD readers!

You can fit 10 half-hour shows of good quality DivX onto 1 CDR, once the commercials are stripped out.

i find multiple cds a pain in the arse... the quality is good enough... thou it would play almost like DVD on a TV (low res an all that) and DVD on a PC sucks like ball **** anyways

plus, alot of DVD players that say they play (S)VCD dont usally play CDrs, it doesnt do this on mine either

80min CDs are 700mb .... 800Mb cds are the 90min ones... and not many CDrw drives can burn that high

uh Cam... 41 hours?!?! i know its only a 500Mhz your on but damn that is long... 35Gb where the hell did that come from ?!?!
