Ok i have a nice PC however i don't feel the need to post it in my signature, brag about it every minute to people (well except a few people who aren't even on this forum but since i used to have a really really crappy pc i feel i need to rub it in thier faces. One person insists his celeron 500 could kick my athalon 1400's ass any day. It is also a compaq. further degrading from it). Anyways i am getting off topic. I really don't plan on touching my PC's hardware for at least a year. By then i will upgrade it a bit. but i will be well into university before i have anything but an athalon 1400

aint running yet, im having problems getting my keyboard to work, ive used a few and they all work on my other pc :/
well when i get it running, soon hopefully i will be ripping DVDs (not SVCDs) ... will be much faster thou when i get a new SCSI drive in there, i only have a 4gb at the moment and that would be a bit small for ripping really :/

Good Ol' Platypus
I am actually recording off the TV and encoding to DivX w/compressed audio in real time on my Celeron 533, hehe. It's very CPU-intensive, however the most frames I've ever dropped was 3 from a 2 hour recording (totalling 530mb).
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.
(Just a heads-up)

Eh, until ATI can post drivers consistently, or put out beta drivers that won't fry your comp, no chance in hell I'm putting a Radeon in my comp... I'm most likely gonna get the Gainward ti450 (a stock overclocked ti200), and overclock the hell out of it.... Only 150 or so on Pricewatch...

perhaps i should have rephrased my question when i said an SVCD rip i meant a dvd rip to SVCD. I generally just do a batch encode when i go to bed and set my computer to shut down when its done. Sastraxi. Big deal ripping to divx in real time. Rip to interlaced SVCD at a decent but variable bitrate with highest quality in real time then i will be impressed. To do that it would actually have to rip twice as fast as the movie plays since VBR goes over once, sets bitrates then goes over again and encodes. I alway rip DVDs. Thanks to blockbuster

Whereas I would have agtreed with you a month ago, I now have to side with NVidia. I have a Radeon 8500 but the drivers were so bad that I couldn't use IE without it freezing. I could do absolutely nothing. I now have a GeForce3 ti200 and I like it

Sounds like someone has a hard time installing drivers as I've heard nothing but positive news of the Radeon 8500.

Bah, doesn't really matter....but every five minutes my comp would freeze and after i rebooted windows said my drivers were the cause. It doesn't really matter, except that I have a $200 card just lying around
