Thread: a little more help from experts needed

    Unhappy

    my friend sent me this setup program that he made, The setup program asks for a registration number, that is stored in the setup program

    he chanllenged me to get the registration number, how do I do that does anybody know?


    I tried using a hex editor, but I don't know what to look for, someone please help me

    You could use SoftIce..but that's another story and the hard way .

    Or ask him for a hint on what the first letter is. Than you just use the Hex Editor, type in that letter. And any letter that starts with that and has the whole word to it, try typing it in. That is the longer way.

    SoftIce is like a hex editor..cept its a little more advanced. It is much better than Hex Workshop or any of those other hex editors.

    I will email you the link. I don't think John will be to happy of me posting it and where its being downloaded from.

    Give this a chance...

    Try this:
    go to the MS-DOS prompt,
    then type:

    Edit /70 c:\filepath\filename.exe

    then search for strings like "Register", "Reg", "serial",
    and so...
    if you find, just look around the word found.
