Whats a bad colour for phlegm ?

    Just wondering.
Lets say one's phlegm were to be sortof hard, stringy (to the point that it can get trapped in the plug hole of your sink like women's hair can etc.) and um is brownish with bits of red in it ...

... would that be a bad thing ?

plendy, hate to worry you bach, but i'd go and see a doctor as soon as you can. You've probably got a chest infection, but, when i've got a chest infection, the phlegm tends to be green. Hope you're ok, good luck in your french cariad

If it's any consolation, I'm not at my healthiest at the moment. My phlegm's a kind of cream with a consistency like warm putty. It also won't go down the plug hole so it now goes in the bowl.

Blood's not a good sign. If you've been vomiting a lot recently then it's not too bad but if not, I'd trot into A&E (I don't like quacks).

    Nice innit?

I was ill about a fortnight ago, got over it and just got ill again now.

I'm sure it's the aircon at work pumping germs from 800 people around the place all the time.

The air con at our place is like that, but our team sit right under the terminal pipe, so every molecule of ****e exuded by the peasants throught the 12 miles of office and corridor in our building gets dumped on our desks. To make it works, its broken, so its either pumping out freezing cold air or a warm, damp tropical breeze.

I think industrial action is the way forward

Right its not gotten any better.
There's a lot more blood in the phlegm now... so I think its time to visit the doctor.

I got a bad cold and then a chest infection about 2 months ago, and I don't think it ever completely cleared up. And this just feels ten times worse.

So what's the Doc say, Jamie?

This sounds like something horrible, like TB or something. I hope it's just a passing thing- maybe too much Liffey Water maybe?

I have been rather fancying myself as a bit of a phlegm hue connesu- connysewer- conessuire-...expert.

I regard any respiratory expulsion to be substandard if it a) fails to stick to glass and b) takes less than 8 minutes to expectorate from your orifice of choice.

For example, two years ago I had a really bad cold and [THE FORUM MODERATOR HAS REMOVED PART OF THIS POSTING DUE TO ITS UTTERLY REPULSIVE CONTENT]. Industrial solvent soon removed it though.

So your red blotchy excretions are nothing in comparison.

As a matter of fact the phlegm does stick to glass and ceramic (and requires the tap to be run for about 5 minutes to make it unstick), and normally takes about a half hour to get it out of me.

    I'm not joking neither!

Until you get fixed up, make the most of it.
Cough up all over a piece of canvas, and call it a work of art.

Previous history in Australian galleries indicates they will pay a pretty price for anything remotely resembling art.

    Righto peeps.
    Back from el doctor.

Bassically he doesn't know exactly whats wrong either.
So there were two options, a longer stronger course of antibiotics than I was on for my chest infection (that didn't clear up back in december), or to get a chest x-ray and hock up as much phlegm as I can into a sterile cup so they can analyse it in a lab.

So I've to spit loads of crap into this little jar, they'll grow it in a culture to see if there's anything nasty in it.
Then I'm also getting a chest x-ray to... well im not sure what for, but im getting one anyway.

    Uhn differentiation.
Differentiation by rule, or using the product & quotient rule ?

And the chain rule ... hmm I remember that from maths. What's it about again ?
