I am hoping that the VB programmers here will assist me. I have sent this request to a couple Visual Basic experts I found on the Internet, but haven't received any replies. I hope you will be able to find time to help me and reply to me via this forum or email ([email protected]). I am not asking for code, only descriptions of the applications' functionality.

I have made a proposition to my boss for the company to consider investing in training me to become a proficient VB programmer. Right now I am a novice with the goal of becoming really good. Because I have just started learning the language, I am only able to describe general ideas that would benefit the company. The benefits I mentioned in my proposal were integrated MS Office applications, interactive intranet form development and enhancements to a home-grown electronic timecard program.

My boss took my proposition to our president. The president said that since our IT department does not have a VB programmer slot, I would need to justify the creation of a new position by specifically describing VB projects beneficial to the company. I have been able to find code sources for VB programmers on the Internet, but I have not found descriptions of business projects. If you would rather not supply examples, do you have any suggestions of where I could find this information?

I read and learn from your posts here. I am looking forward to joining your discussions when I become more proficient with the language.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

what sort of company do you work for?

also, don't try to dazzle people with brand-new, shiny front-end examples, tell them about small programs that could acelerate individual tasks...
I used to work for a data-capture Co, one of the biggest parts of the job was converting text files from one format to another. the program that i came up with had no front-end to speak of and it ran in the background all day. I got the accounts department to run a projected summary of office spending, to find that the program i had written had saved £2000 per year! (about $3500, i think).

The b*stards still didn't give me a promotion though! hehehe
