unwanted vbs script files
I hope some can help me out with this--I recently encountered problem, whereby all of my mp.3 and JPEG files were suddenly replaced by VBScript files. My guess is that I downloaded something inadvertently posibly some kind of media player that caused the vast majority (if not all) of my files to default to "VBScript files" I no longer have the ability to play any of my mp.3s or read any of my JPEG files since this happened. The media player I was using to play my music was Music Match. I have since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the player with hope that my mp.3s would revert back to the old file type. Even more frustrating is everything new I try to download defaults to VBSfiles?
Any suggestions on how to correct this problem? I have absolutely no experience with VB and will try anything to rid to get my files back. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I would scan for viruses before I did anything else. It might just be a hijacked file association, but a virus is a distinct possiblity.

Check all of your startup methods
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
Startup folder
win.ini
system.ini
Sounds like that Kournikova script virus that was out a while ago.

In a real Jam!!
all of my mp.3 and JPEG files along with many other files were suddenly replaced by VBScript files. I'm told I may have likely downloaded a virus of some kind, however my virus scan does seem to detect one. I no longer have the ability to play any of my mp.3s or read any of my JPEG files or any files for that matter since this happened. The media player I was using to play my music was Music Match. I have since tried uninstalling and reinstalling the player with hope that my mp.3s would revert back to the old file type. Even more frustrating is everything new I try to download defaults to VBSfiles? Please tell me there is a way to retrieve my old file and rid this disease!! I am not exactly computer savy so I would require a step by step solution... Your help would be tremendously appreciated..
