Execute immediately, don't prompt for download
I have the following link in a page:
<a href="file:///C:/hello.exe"> LINK </a>
When the user clicks on LINK a window appears that asks if the user wants to open or download the file. I want to get rid of that window and, when the user clicks, the program hello.exe be executed immediately. How is this possible?
Thanks,
Dimitris

Man wouldn't that be an excellent way to spread a virus!

Dear cudabean,
The program would run client-side, so there aren't virus issues here.

You could link to something like "format c:\", etc...
Josh
Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

I tell you what spanosdm,
You write a web browser that allows exe's to be run on a clients
machine and we'll all make websites with nice .exe files on them
that mess with your settings and delete all your files, after it's
mailed itself to everyone on your contacts list.
Then you come along to one of our sites and pop you computer turns itself off!
Do you get what everyone who's posted previously is getting at now!
This feature of the browser is for the surfers saftey, you can't get rid of it!!
No offence intended.....spanosdm!
but there is no way you are going to get this to work!

well said progressive.... but the user can turn it off not the webmaster. so each individual user can turn that download box off and run from site, if he wishes. but I strongly disagree about this. it is not safe to turn it off as you can donwload stuff that will make you have a bad day...
