My first game...i would like info

Hi group,


i think many of you heard of games like Ultima. I would like to build me my own VERY VERY VERY easy form of Ultima. I've looked through the forum for tips etc. I also downloaded some stuff but learning this way isn't considered good practice...!?!

I would appr. if someone could send me some tips, hints, link etc. on how to build a simple RPG.

Things I would like to learn are:
- how do I create a map;
What kind of control do I need? Just put a picture on a form or
what?
- how do I put my character IN the map (so that it is aware of objects in the map;
- how do I scroll a map;
If I have a map that's dimensions are a grid 10 x 10 (so a 100 squares) and i can have only 5 x 5 cells on my form how make it so that my char is always in the middle of the form. (The map scrolls under the character)

Things like that...I think that a lot of you guys (and girls?) faced the same problems.

I was considering summarily executing him, but at least he did some research before he posted. Or claimed to.

I may consider writing a tutorial in the near future but I have quite a lot to do for now.
