Angry markman is full of crap

    Read this:

CoolnessItself: and btw windows and ie are spyware
JungleMan 152: arr let's face it you're just jealous that I have it :-P
    JungleMan 152: ***
    CoolnessItself: i HAD it
JungleMan 152: what makes them spyware
CoolnessItself: um, they log all files and sites you see/go to then periodically upload the list to a secure ms server
CoolnessItself: i didnt believe it at firsat
    JungleMan 152: *pfft* that's bull****
JungleMan 152: run zonealarm and surf the web
JungleMan 152: close out all IM applications, and such
CoolnessItself: its a low-level communication so it bypasses firewalls
JungleMan 152: see what data it tries to send
    CoolnessItself: you cant
JungleMan 152: that's bull**** at its finest
    CoolnessItself: its a low-level communication
    CoolnessItself: seriously
CoolnessItself: i saw the list of sites
    JungleMan 152: prove it
CoolnessItself: my friend made a program to extract the list of sites out of the file
CoolnessItself: hes not gigving the program to anyone
    CoolnessItself: yet
JungleMan 152: yes, windows logs a history
JungleMan 152: go to IE history
    JungleMan 152: it's there
    CoolnessItself: no
JungleMan 152: don't have my audio enabled now
    CoolnessItself: not that
JungleMan 152: so what would it be
CoolnessItself: it logs it in a file that windows uses, among the windows data. the file is not visible under windows or dos; the only way to see it is if you are running linux under the same partition as windows
CoolnessItself: then even if you see it; if you delete it; windows doesnt work
CoolnessItself: but i saw the list of files under a friends computer when he was running linux
JungleMan 152: hehe, prove it and i'll believe it
    CoolnessItself: i cant
    CoolnessItself: but i saw
    CoolnessItself: it
CoolnessItself: i know you dont believe me
    JungleMan 152: i think you're lying
    JungleMan 152: i know you're lying
CoolnessItself: avion-mag.com had an article on its website about it until some government org took their site down cause they use the info uploaded to ms for evidence
JungleMan 152: government can't do that, it violates the 1st amendment, so i instantly know you're full of ****
JungleMan 152: there's no such site as avion-mag.com
CoolnessItself: that cause it was taken down
    CoolnessItself: thats what i thought
CoolnessItself: i SAW the list of files
JungleMan 152: uhh, the government can't take down a website for a theory
    CoolnessItself: whatever
CoolnessItself: i didnt believe this kid till i saw the list of files
    CoolnessItself: so i can understand
    JungleMan 152: Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
JungleMan 152: freedom of the press, 1st amendment
JungleMan 152: government does not own MS anyway
    CoolnessItself: ehhhh
    CoolnessItself: there are exceptions anyway
    JungleMan 152: such as...
CoolnessItself: a govcernment can control the web; it is now
    CoolnessItself: search for it
JungleMan 152: oh my god you are so full of ****
    CoolnessItself: seriously
JungleMan 152: the US government cannot control the internet becase:
    CoolnessItself: not all of it
CoolnessItself: but they sure did shut down that site
JungleMan 152: 1) It violates the 1st amendment
    2) other coutnires are on the net
    3) there was previously a law about this which the Supreme Court overruled as unconstitutional
JungleMan 152: it was about the gov. censoring the web for porn and such
CoolnessItself: i dont remember what it was; i wish i did now; but the gov did control something.
    CoolnessItself: dont remember
    CoolnessItself: ill look
JungleMan 152: Talk to me another day when you aren't lying out the ass and telling me that the government overruled the 1st amendment by itself with absolutely nothing on the news about this. What are you going to tell me now; government controls the media?

Im not saying the government can control the web (they probably have the ability to shut down sites that disclose confidentiial information) but I did see the list of sites and files ms stores. Im not lying.

    err, he's probably right.
Ever heard of system called: Echelon ? It is global spying network created by (as so far is known) USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It not only scans all international communication lines (using 120 satellites, microwave listening stations and an adapted submarine) but also analyses and stores usenet messages. All of this is done transparently and automatically (bits are easy to handle). There is no certainty that how long has this network being active, but it was "compromised" couple years ago.

If anyone has a hardrive to spare, install windows (probably winMe or up) then install linux on the same partition (im not sure how thats done) and make a program in linux that looks for a hash in a file you find that isnt found on windows.

Also remember, that Windows and many programs in Windows OS environment, create logfiles and history information about your activities. Most of them are pretty harmless, except that they take out your harddrive space, but there are some which you should think about. Your TEMP-folder, for example, can contain almost anything. It can have copies of documents you have deleted, programs you have installed or uninstalled, log files from various programs, etc. If you are using normal settings, you Internet browser is almost a gold mine: it stores information about the sites you have visited for weeks, in theory, forever! So, anyone getting into your computer, one way or the other, can easily see what did you see in the net and when

I remember reading something about Echelon, but that was a whole while ago, and i thought it still was about matrices until i suddenly realized that was what i had read about. I don't remeber much but there's a ongoing war against echelon, and they try to send loads of stuff that contains keywords that echelon is watching for, that would screw up filtering out unimportant stuff

does is really matter anyway? I had a *ahem* demo of XP a while ago. I realised it sucked, so i went back to 2k, whice i own. No FBI agents have been to my door yet. I think they are more concerned with people flying into buildings and anthrax in the mail and stuff.

Bah, mostly all of that has been made up by conspiracy theorists who think their own shadow is out to get them. The government is corrupt, yes, but they still value the privacy of the citizens a little bit. Enough so that M$ doesn't have enough $$ to buy this kind of spyware rights and keep it out of the public eye. Honestly, markman, most of what you said is tripe passed along to you by a conspiracy theorist.

...ks , hey did i miss anything...

I love this conspiracy stuff... as if anyone has anything interesting to say that would keep the CIA, FBI etc glued to their monitors...

Bob: Hey Jack, this Justin guy is downloading Goat Porn again, do we send in the F16's?
Jack: Nah, we got bigger fish to fry. I see that Lou is trying to blind half the population with his GUI's. Call in the airforce.
Bob: Hmm yeah, now we just gotta work out where the hell he is.
Jack: Well, start bombing Switzerland for now and we'll narrow it down later.

You guys, what markman is talking about is true. I'll post the link for you to get more info on how to view it. It can only be done on an MS OS that can boot to pure dos mode though. AFAIK, it doesn't actually upload this to MS except on newer OSes, but I could be wrong.

I apoligize for the language of the url.

The url is http://www.f-u-c-kmicrosoft.com without the dashes, and then click on where it says Special Feature Microsoft's Really Hidden Files.

    Its unfortunately quite true.

I read about this "list" on one of the mod sites I visit. You don't have to have Linux installed, you just need to know the exact filename of the .dat file that contains all the sites you visit. It's filled with jibberish, to the human eye anyway, so it's hard to read. You also need to use Edit in DOS to view it. I am searching for that link right now. I remember finding the link to it on www.virtual-hideout.net so I am searching their News archive right now.

    GET REAL

    Back to reality . . .

If MS really did have spyware embedded in it's OSes, you don't think the genius level programmers at Norton, McAfee, ZoneLabs, etc., etc., etc. would be just going nuts telling the world about it? Hell, the companies themselves would be informing users of this stuff.

It would not be rumors and innuendo trickling out of obsure little sites.
