Angry [multiple sounds of utter disgust]

How awful is Windows Me? I have it on one of my machines, and I was working on something, and the god damn thing just rebooted itself out of nowhere!!

    What the hell is that?!?

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you just water down your vodka.

Windows ME sucks. I wanted to format my HDD but you can't remove it from your Hard drive. It has no option to go to DOS. Bastards. I had to cheat quite a bit in order to do it.

The question is, how much of a dumbass do you have to be to actually have it installed on your machine, and to leave it there when you know it's crap.... you need some help !

The ONLY reason why I had ME on my computer was because it can pre-installed. It was either that or XP Which I didn't want + it was another £100 or so) So I took ME. Had it running for one day and formatted it at the end of the day pissed off with it. It was crashing at the slightest thing.

So download a copy of dos - even that's a better OS - don't bother with tales like that, there is NO excuse for having that on your system
BTW - I'm not a great fan of ME

    hmmm..

have to jump in here and say that I have had ME running on my system for quite a while now and have never had any problems with it. (I have a dual boot with 2K ,ME is just for music editing stuff).

However, I installed ME over the top of 98SE whereas my friend who installed ME from a fresh format, had nothing but problems.

Maybe that has something to do with it

    my 2 cents worth...

What do you mean 'even that' ? DOS ruled I liked DOS. Shame they didn't make a proper 32-bit multi-tasking version of DOS and leave Windows as an optional GUI like 3.11.

All this new-fangled clicky clicky mouse stuff, it's too damn easy

I ****ing hate ME. It's not my fault that the computer suppliers only supply ME with their machines. So I feel absolved of any guilt for having ME on my system.

    Harry - too right, bro'

DOS 6.22 was, despite what anyone will tell you, pretty f00kin' amazing. I got on really well with it. Even now most of my work is based around command-line stuff - I use IRIX and Solaris on a daily basis, and only use X for the source editor (www.nedit.org - anyone on Unix or Linux, get it NOW, it rocks).

I use emacs personally. What's Nedit particularly good at?

It's a lot lighter than emacs, for one (so is the planet, but never mind)

It does regular expression syntax highlighting and searching, you can run commands right from the editor window.

Basically, it does pretty much everything emacs does, but without the overhead.

Well I'm running Win2000 at home and had very little trouble with it... I also run MacOs 9 and MacOs X (and Server)... Which all are stable and easy to use

ME sucks though... I worked on it for a few months and it was unstable as hell...

XP is ok.. I played with that for a while... Its nothing great but is good for some things.. doesn't like ADSL though!

The last PC I bought was a bare box, no OS on it at all. Perfect!

My computer at home is all built from bits. It was originally a package but I have changed practically every part on it now. I have Win98 as a preference on it.

However, the company that I work for usually buy in complete computers. It was my turn for an upgrade ('bout bloody time too as well) So we bought, on offer, 3 new PC's (AMD 1500+ XP, with 512 DDR RAM, ATA100 30Gb HDD, 15.1" TFT monitors, DVD and 16x10x32 CDRW, in case you are intrested) We also needed some more OS's. Now the other people in the company don't do much so they are alright with ME but I had to have one of these new computers as they were pretty cool. I gave my monitor to someone else though ( prefer my 19" Flatron ) It wasn't my fault. The Deal was exceptionally good.

Does anyone know what "ME" stands for?

    ....

    "Requires Reformat" =).

32Bit, Multitasking DOS sounds something like heaven.

A 32-bit, multi-tasking operating system without any embedded GUI you have to use... hmm maybe this is why I use Linux at work
