Microsoft Outlook woes
I am having trouble with Microsoft Outlook.. I am trying to either uninstall all the preferences for it or to change it so that it can accept the connection to the company Exchange Server.
Does anyone have experience with Outlook (not express) so that they can answer a few questions for me?
Cheers for any help
Chris

Go on then fire away!
What version of Outlook are you using?
I only have experience with Outlook 97 if that's any help.

The problem is using Outlook 2000 and Exhange...
Basically we bought a new machine and we set it up in the Design room to be the design room email (for the case of working this out we will call it [email protected])
The email is all set up on the server which we will call fs01 for the case of working this out.
Now I installed the Office 2000 suite with Excell, Access etc... Then went to set up Outlook.. when I started it going it asked what we were using either Internet or Exchange.. I selected exchange and all the other peices of information (name of the account etc).. to cut a long story short the Outlook can't find the Exchange (which is sitting on the server) and it now gives me all sorts of errors on loading and opens the local folders instead..
I want to get rid of these settings that have been set up and start again (to hopefully get this right)
I hope that this explains what I have done... Can anyone help me? I have tried uninstalling Office 2000 and start again, it keeps the settings.. (I have done this twice now)
Cheers for any help
Chris

I dunno... I will check that ... I would like to get it back to the start again so that I can set it up from scratch again...
Any ideas how to do that?

Hmmm well you could just uninstall office.
Then check if you can ping the server.
If you can, try telnetting to it on port 110. See if you can see the exchange service running.
If all thats cool, then exchange is up and running and the computer can see its up and running. Outlook should then be able to do it. If you go into mail in control panel you can tell it the server name there. You can also get it to check your mailbox validity there too.

Ok.. I can ping the server.. I think that I may have put the wrong thing in the set up for Outlook.. It just won't let me have any options to change any of the settings... I have tried uninstalling office.. it seems to keep its settings.. this is confusing me now.. I have also checked the mail option in the Control Panel and it is set up correctly.
I just dunno what to do now..

All the information in the mail control panel was correct from what I could tell.. it had the correct name for the server and the address that it was meant to connect to.. I'm not on ICQ i'm afraid i'm at work and we can't have things like IRC/ICQ or even messenger...
I'm now trying to use Outlook Express and it won't connect to it through the network or the LAN internet... so I'm thinking that something weird is going on... I will get screenshots of as much of it as I can so that I can post them.. but I have uninstalled Outlook 2000 now..
I will look through the options for Mail again.. but I don't think that there is anything that is wrong..

Cheers mate.. I will email you the Screen shot that I now get. I have partially got it to work (it was missing the vital component of personal folders..) but I now have the problem that it cannot connect to the Exchange Server for one reason or another.. So its all very confusing... I will take screenshots of all the options that I have.. if you can help I would greatly appreciate it
Cheers

I have emailed you screen shots of the Mail option in the control panel and the error that pops up in the Outlook start up....
I hope that you can make sense of them.. there are about 11 jpg images of all the seperate things... if you need another or more descriptive images.. then if you could tell me which ones you want and where to find them then I can do that for you
Cheers for all your help

Go to tools and services, exchange should be in the list.
You can try adding another and putting in the server name and the mail name, then check name. That is all I have ever done.
