I need some help. I am still new to programming with VB6, but am starting to get the hang of it. Anyway, I need to move on to learning database programming. What I need is GOOD books that explain in detail all about this ADO stuff that I hear about and so on..
I can't afford to drop down 45 dollars on a book that just doesn't explain it well. I was looking at a book called "Murach's Visual Basic 6" which had a lot of database stuff in it, but wasn't sure about the 45 dollar price tag.
    Please help me Database programmers..

what database do you want to work with? you'll probably want a book on ADO and then a book that will be more specific to your database... you probably don't need one for MS Access, but you'll want one for SQL server or Oracle...

this is the best book I've read on ADO:
    Programming ADO by MsPress

I've never purchased a SQL Server book, but people usually recommand The Hitchikers guide to VB and SQL Server (or something like that....)

I don't think either of these books are for absolute beginners though

    Cool

I been using Profession Visual Basic 6 Databases by Charles Williams and it seems to be pretty good. I also use Visual Basic 6 Database How-To, The Waite Groups and its a fairly good book as well.

    Hope this helps.

WROX makes a red book that just says "ADO 2.1 Programming Reference" (the one I have is ISBN 1861002688) but I imagine there is an "ADO 2.5" now... anyways, this book tought me ADO from scratch... I highly recommend this book.

Title: Mastering Database Programming with Visual Basic 6

    Price: 39.99 US

I learned everything about ADO from this book. It also goes into web database development and using dataenvironment and datareports. It also goes into detail about T-SQL and StoreProcedures. It deals with SQL Server, Access, etc...

My answer would depend on what dbms you plan on using but
"HitchHiker's Guide to VB and SQl Server" is the most useful book I have when it comes to DB programming...

    (your mileage may vary)
