    Tricky tabling

I'm trying to put a line on this page, http://24.37.102.253:8082/bubbledesign/ , in such a way that it vertically joins all the bubbles (the circles). But for the life of me I can't get it working perfectly. I tried inserting tables with some CSS styles above and below the bubbles but even if I make the table's height 100% it doesn't make the line connect the bubbles. A background picture for the cells didn't work either.

    Any ideas?

That's what I did exactly, but as you can see from the screenshot it doesn't work if the text ends up taking up more space vertically than the bubble, although I just got an interesting idea on how to get around it by changing the design...

So, you want the three circle graphics on the left joined by vertical lines, correct?

The four circles, yes. But the problem is using the background method it sometimes extends beyond the length of the bubbles at the top and bottom.

I stripped it a bit to make it easier for me to work with, and marked what I did.

See if you can play with it a little and make it work.

Thanks John but it still has the same problem of the height, you just took the cheap approach () of specifying an absolute height. Although you just gave me an idea...

Well sorta worked, but there are lines right above and below the circles but not connecting them.

the way that ubunreal69 did it looks good. just make an extra graphic so that it connects to the bubbles that aren't connected.

    just my thought anyway.

ok, i dont know what u mean but here is what i see it as; what u mean "connect the bubbles" , they are connected by the line or isnt that what u mean ?

    please explain.

here's how my browser views it, (i'm really confused)
