Is there a way to look at source code of an .exe?

I was wondering it there is a way to view the source code of applications that are already in the form of .exe's. Like lets say I download a program, and I want to see exactly how they pulled a certain feature off. Can I do this?

You can always get a decompiler, but most of them only decompile to Assembler Code.
