It may be a PC, but then it's not a normal PC

    No boot time
No Windows 9x kernels knocking around

I've seen PSones crash, it's not like the phenomenon is exclusively the domain of PCs

Graphically the games look good but i tried some demos and the games lacked the depth normally present in games that run on other platforms. So im still confused on what to buy. PS2 or XBox.
If i had existing PS games then PS2 would be the logical choice because of backwards compatiblity.

I've crashed a N64 plenty of times, once in a while the Dreamcast (but then again it's based off of an old version of Windows CE), and always a PSOne and PS2.

I know Ninetendo does this, I don't know about Sony. I knew a guy who was in house QA at Ninetendo in Seattle.

Anyway, if you have bugs in your game, you can return it for a more recent copy. They can't really release patches since they are cartridges, but they do incorporate the bug fixes in newer burns.

I can crash my PS in GT2 because the game has a bug with the test track. I just run it a few times placing in a certain order and I hose up the game, the console just freezes.
