    Cool Cornish Independance

Hey, here in Cornwall there's a lot of talk about getting independance for Cornwall.

Hell, we had our own king not more than five hundred years ago.

We don't belong in England and it's about time we were freed from you saxon skum!

    It's not fair

    Scotland get thier own Parliment
Wales gets their an assmembly (whatever that is suposed to mean)
Northern Ireland get a shambles called an Assembly
    Cornwall want a regional balls-up
    Newcastle have their own language

    When is it England's turn?

They can have independence if they take Prince Charles. Citizenship will be granted to native Cornish Speakers

Good idea - Cornwall's thriving economy should keep you bouyant without westminster's coffers for at least a millenium

    Thumbs up Kernow

So, now you've bled us dry, we've got no choice but to depend on England?

Parts of Cornwall used to be amoung the richest in Britain. We've done it once, we can do it again!

    Right On!

Cornwall is part of england you goon

Right, I am declaring independance of my house from England, simply because I'm a wacko with no idea about anything

I say to anyone who wants independence (this goes esp. to the scots and the welsh)...screw you then, if you think you can do a better job on your pitiful lonesome, go right ahead

This place is pitiful enough with all the countries united, just how crap are you going to be on your own???

I'm also declaring my independence, and setting myself up as a tax-haven.

Whilst Cornwall is, obviously, considered part of England, it does have historical reasons for considering itself as distinct from the rest of England.

The have their own language for one thing. Not many other parts of England can boast that.

They consider themselves one of the celtic nations (along with Ireland, Scotland and Wales).
Everything I say is either loose interpretation of dubious facts or idle speculation rooted in irrational sentiment.

The trouble with the Cornish is that they all have bushy eyebrows and webbed hands/feet.

I've got my own language, it's called Bollox, therefore I declare me independant

When does it stop?? Shall we have individual counties becoming "nations" which are as poor and insignificant as Luxembourg???

History is something people pay a lot of attention to when it suits them, and something they ignore when it doesn't.

Hey, we've been neglected by Westminster for years. Last year we got objective one funding from europe 'cause we're on of the poorest places in the european union. What have the English ever done for us?

Just 'cause everyones jumping on the independance bandwagon like rats leaping off a sinking ship, no need to get so hairy man!

    The empire's dead.

Own parliament?? Surely that's a joke??

What are they going to rule over?

    A dead mining industry
    Hideous unemployment
    Piss poor/non existant public services

Local authority spends the money it is given by government. If your local autority is doing a bad job of spending it, you should boot them out, not cry over how villianous "Westminster" has been to you

Trust me - you do not want a party conference on your doorstep. It ****s up the whole place for weeks. I'd rather they all just buggered off and left us in peace.

If you want to set up an off-shore account in my Invisible State, it's quite simple to do - and we have great secrecy laws. Just give me all your money, and don't tell anyone.

Good grief. Why don't we all just split up and each house can be a country.

Seeing as you're asking what England's ever done for Cornwall (which is odd considering Cornwall's in England), I am asking you the reciprocal question: what has Cornwall ever done for England?

I'd love to see what the Cornish Ministry of Defense came up with

    Exclamation Kernow

Hey you guys, just 'cause England's long since whitewashed our language and culture doesn't mean that our sense of spirit is crushed!

Does any of you remember the Cornish Rebellion? We marched all the way from Cornwall to London but, thanks to the cowardly Welsh who were supposed to rendezvous with us, we were massacared.
well they could throw all those peices of coal they've got lying around at passing fighter aircraft.
Hey, we don't mine coal down here, we mine (or did) tin.

Why don't you just give us back our freedom?

What? What freedom is there to give you? The freedom to make your own laws? Why don't we just give everyone the the freedom to make their own laws then? We can have 50 million different countries each with their own laws instead of just a few. Wow, wouldn't that be a great step forwards for freedom.

Come off it, you're hardly an oppressed people.

Your culture? What exactly is so special about Cornish culture? How has Cornwall being part of England 'whitewashed' your culture? It's the same with the language - what exactly is it that makes you think things would be any different? Having more languages to deal with isn't of any benefit to anyone, and Cornwall would be just as full of McDonaldses and Burger Kings and KFCs and Virgin Megastores and Tescos and whatever else you consider to have destroyed 'your culture' as it is now. That is inescapeable unless you move Cornwall to the moon, which right now isn't sounding like a bad idea.

    Smile England and Cornwall

We are not English. We have our own culture and language and have been absorbed into England after a deliberate attempt to supress our sense of identity.

Cornwall was the last place in England to finally surrender to the Saxons in the 9th century. Until then, we were a seperate and independant nation and had been even during the roman occupation of Britain.

Ethnically and culturally, we are distinct from the rest of England. Just because you didn't learn about us in your "anglo-centric" history lessons doesn't mean we never existed!
