VS NET on new partition or different PC?
Hey,
I've heard that the recomendation for the VS.net installation is to use a "PC that you don't mind reformating" if you start having problems.
What do you all think? I've got it on a different PC at work, but that's a luxury. I want to make a new partition on my home PC and install 2k and VS.net. That shouldn't be dangerous for the rest of the PC, right?
Thanks-

No that will be completely safe.
The reason for this recomendation is that VS.Net is still in Beta but personally I haven't followed that recomendation and I haven't had any problems (yet).

It's not a problem as long as you don't want to remove it. Because you can't.
That's Mr Mullet to you, you mulletless wonder.

Yeah, the components are .Net components and framework, not COM components. Besides I think it would be a good idea to keep the CLR anyway since I'll need it in the future.

I went to install Beta 2 on my machine with Beta 1, and the docs from Mr. Bill say that you have to uninstall Beta 1, but also recommend that you reformat and reinstall the OS before upgrading to Beta 2.

Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

That's true! But MS mentioned when beta1 was release that that version would not be binary compatible with later beta releases.
Beta2 however will have binary compatibility with the final release of VS.Net
Best regards

thanks...
thanks for all the replies
it's nice to know that I can use another partition on my dev system as the PC I've got it on now is a Pentium 200
it's really no problem, except when you load the program, search the help file or compile anything!
...is that true that beta 2 will be binary compatible with the final release?
