API Line/Lasso function?

I read somewhere a code snippet utilizing the API that allowed you to show a Line/Lasso (?) tool. This code allowed a user to draw lines, rectangles, etc. much like in MS Paint, Photoshop, etc where a 'representation' of the line was shown and could be adjusted BEFORE the actual line was drawn. Unfortunatly I cannot find this function anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks for the assist....
