    Oiy! You Aussie ****! You dare question the quality of our beer? Don't forget that mother England didn't abandon you during WWII. Show some more respect!

    In answer to your question, lager and bitter are terms I generally associate with the mass produced, low in flavour, plenty of chemicals and all about image beers.

    I don't know for sure whether Australians have any idea what a real beer is or not (never having been there) but I have never seen anything come out Australia that even resembles real beer.

    And if it annoys you that people keep associating you with Fosters, why don't you change your avatar?

    On the lager side of things, they are as bad as us. Possibly a little better due to the fact that it is served colder and thus tastes better in the climate, and that Coopers exists - one of the few Aussie beers that could possibly be rated.

    You reckon!! Redback's a larger good flavour and not an image beer and not mass produced Crownies are the same! In fact come to think of it i can name 5 off the top of my head which are not mass produced, image beers and taste great:

    Brass Monkey Lager - Brewed Fremantle WA Sail and Anchor Brewery
    Redback - brewed WA semi-large brewery
    Crown Lager - brewed Victoria Aust. Semi-large
    Last Drop lager - brewed Port Hedland WA.
    Little Creatures Fine Lager - Fremantle WA.

    Grapes:
    Yeah bloody oath and Margaret River producing som'a da best wooded chardoney's your ever going to taste!

    I haven't even heard of (let alone tasted) any of the beers you listed so I shall have to reserve judgement.

    As I said, I have never been to Australia and it is likely that only the mass produced "beers" make it over here.

    And, by the way, when I mean taste, I don't mean like nat's urine. I mean a NICE taste!

    Exactly my point you aint tasted them, you probably wont unless you actually come ta freo coz they dont get shipped very much, so how can lagers be image beer and mass produced!!!

    Gaffer's been here reckons most are crap, if your willing to take his word for it!

    Who da hell is nat???
    I what were you doing comparing beer and his urine?
    You musta been smashed old chap!

    Frankly my dear i dont giva **** each to his own i spose and until i journey down your way and taste these heavenly delights then i'm strictly a narrow minded view.

    Fraid so... But then again I think there is only 3 or 4 nations in the world that do quality lager.
    I have to admit that most of the time over there (which was 12 years ago), I drank Coopers, Tooheys, Tooheys Old, and VB. I never really got into the indie brewery stuff (cos I wasn't intrested in quality when I was 18, more quantity ), but now i would be VERY interested in trying it....

    lets face it, your nation do so many ther things so well - the seafood (and cuisine in general) in aus is superb, the wine can be knockout (becoming a wee bit overoaked recently) - I've never tasted Syrah (Shiraz) quite like it before - amazing stuff!

    As for bitter - couple of my Aussie mates have really switched onto cask-conditioned bitter over here, one of them stating that it's one major thing he'll miss about the UK. He compares bitter to red wine - to be served at room temp and for the taste effect, as opposed to the cool drinkability of lager.

    Good point gaffer!!

    Xmas time means sveeka for me it's like grappa only stronger! The local romanians brew it in there back yard! The boys get it through customs saying it's Draino.
    "Yeah sir just got 10 litres of Draino" *cough* but they're geo's so ya never know!

    The reason guiness tastse crap up here is coz it's not the irish guiness it's brewed up here bb.
    Even the canned ones are oz! Mind you they taste worse! And even the ones on tap if they are from britain arent stored correctly!

    Yea, I think you can forget about Guiness anywhere outside of the UK - I tried once in Fiji and decided Cava may be a better bet

    I had a Coopers at the weekend - was pretty good (imported directly from Aus) - I aslo saw, but never bought, a Coppers with a blue label - is it a stout or something?

    I had a few cans of VB not so long ago, quite nice I thought
    For most lagers like Carlsberg, Miller etc, I have to have blackcurrent added to hide the yukky taste.

    Nah i'm pretty sure yellows the stout!!

    Coopers Range:

    Yellow = Stout
    Red = Sparkling Ale
    Green = Pale Ale
    Orange = Dark Ale

    The the main Coopers range but they have about 8+ 0other ones. NOTE: Main range dont include a lager!!!!

    Guisness lovers would love the stout it's pretty strong!

    Coopers Premium Ales:

    Old Stout
    Premium Ale
    Thomas Cooper - just for you i reckon simon!!
    Vintage Ale

    Thats all i know of gaffer! Blue label hmmm the only blue label i think is the light lager! But that a light blue!
    Was it dark or light blue?
    Perhaps a bitter!!!

    Dunno!

    Loyalty to my birthplace forces me to say Newcastle Brown Ale, despite the fact that it tastes like crap.
