menu separators

can anybody tell me how to insert a separator into a menu?
i'v looked all over the menu editor and can't find any option for it anywhere
like if you go up to the menus at the top of the web browser, you see gray separator lines

I think you need to give the caption of the menu to "-". Not including the speech marks.
