Vb6 and VB.Net on same machine?

Could I use VB6 and VB.Net at same machine without loosing functionality of both?

I have VS.Net beta 1 and VB6 SP5 on my W2K box at home, and it works fine for me. I've heard there are issues with Crystal Reports though.

It works for me (both on a Windows NT Workstation PC).

The default install directory for .NET is different and you should not have a problem if you do not change it.

JoshT, do you know what Crystal Report problems? I have not seen any up to now, but maybe they are waiting to get me.

I am running separate Crystal Reports, not the VB packaged edition.

No, I don't as I don't use Crystal Reports at all. I think maybe the .NET version breaks the VB6 version???

yes they are completly independant and work well side by side
also you control alot of the visual interventions in WinXP with VS .NET

vb5, vb6, and vbnet Beta 2 running fine on same machine....Pentium 111 win 98. Though the hard disk space has disappeared somewhere

guys, you wont run into problems having just installed on the same machine

try compiling apps and running them on win98 or nt4
you will most likely run into problems

i installed officexp on my machine
compiled apps with vb
it messed up most of the things when running my app on winnt 4 and 98..

beware if your a professional developer

should work just fine. I have .net beta 1 and vs 6 on mine. It runs great, but I see no reason why to have both on. In fact, i shouldn't even be running vs6 anymore.

You must be a fast learner. I guess the main reason for having both is you are working with real applications on VB6 while learning/testing .net.

Popluar opinion in this forum seems to be that you should not use .net yet for customer applications - but I think that's just being safe. Seems fine and very stable to me.

Im working with an extremely cautious american firm. For example IT (the company) takes ages to test each and every evaluate every service pack for months before implementing it.

Im using .Net to create some asp pages for quick reports on SQL Server and Oracle for production guys, but Im wary of building anything more substantial, even though I'd be into it.

What makes you so sure that the final release will not differ in ways that will cause you to have to rebuild whatever apps you have created in.... did you say beta 1??

Im hoping to be convinced here as I find .net an excellent platform and Im getting pissed off switching between the two.

could you expand on these problems?
When you say compiled apps have problems - do you mean your VB6 apps?
Your experience would be most useful as I want to avoid "damaging" my stuff!!!
