Went fishing with some adults when I was a kid. My uncle caught a flounder(this was fresh water), it was was fairly big. But no one in our group had ever seen a flounder before and they are a very strange looking fish. No one wanted to even touch it. So he ended up cutting his line and let it swim away. lol
Flounder look weird for sure, but man, they taste soooooo good. The water is technically brackish, but I had caught a small redfish just after him which makes me think this was a saltwater flounder.
I absolutely love redfish, but this one was so small that it hadn't turned red yet and at first, I thought it might have been a croaker. But once I saw the signature dot on its tail I was like "oh man, this is just a small redfish".
My son's a "boy's boy" which makes it so much easier for me. Anytime I want my fish cleaned/fileted or animals cleaned, he always volunteers to do it for me.
The river we were fishing is fresh water but we were close to were the river and the SF Bay delta join. So there might be some salt water involved. It was Rio Vista, CA., I don't know the area real well.
This is what Google has to say,
Rio Vista, California is a charming, small city of about 10,000 residents in Solano County. Located in the Sacramento River Delta about 50 miles south of Sacramento and 60 miles northeast of San Francisco, it is known as the "Heart of the Delta" and offers a peaceful, rural-suburban lifestyle.
I have fished various places in the Delta (the delta is a maze), mainly caught catfish and stripers.
What with the WorldCup going on currently, i came across this joke today:

I rarely watch soccer. Like with the World Cup going on, I'll back the US national team just because... why not? But I can honestly say that I might have watched a grand total of 5 minutes of this World Cup.
For the first time EVERY I had a soccer game on the TV last night, the Mexico vs Ecuador match. But that was only because my son came over for dinner and his girlfriend is from Mexico. I can't say that I actually watched it but it was on while I was cooking.
My son was a fairly good soccer player as a kid. He played youth soccer for 8yrs.

I usually try to catch as many matches as i can, but with the Time-difference it's no fun, especially when my alarm is going off at 6AM each morning
Though, i'll stay awake for Croatia - Portugal tonight (1AM german time)
GO CROATIA!

The only thing I have to reference from Croatia is Cro Cop and his legendary head kicks.
That,
and many sites in Croatia, where Game of Thrones was filmed
some Giants in their sport (Alpine Skiing, Men's Tennis, Handball to name a few)
Nikola Tesla
for such a small country (~4.7M citizens --> 3.9M living in Croatia, rest in the world) nothing to sneeze at

The Midwest sucks. It's a weather form of Russian roulette. It's not a question of IF you will be hit by a severe storm, it's a question of when, and possibly how bad it will be. I dodged one yesterday when I happened to end up in a hotel. Had I been camping, it might not have gone well. The place I was camping the day before got clobbered, yesterday, and I had no real warning about it based on the weather forecast. The forecast is generally just saying, "bad storms will probably show up...somewhere. They are likely to have damaging winds, possibly large hail, and a small chance of a tornado."
It was raining hard when I got up this morning, rained for a couple hours, and now the sun is out...with a chance of more storms developing later on today. I opted to take the day off, since I will be camping for the next couple of days once I leave here. Saturday and Sunday look better than today.
Yeah, my mom lived in OK and I was always amazed how fast storms came and went. We could be getting ready to grill and all of a sudden a storm would hit and you have to go into the house. Then ten minutes later you would be back outside grilling. She lived in a trailer house for a long time and some of the storms would shake the house around. It didn't bother her but it unnerved me and kids.
FIFA overturned the red card against Balogun, changing the mandatory one game ban into probation???????
4 days later?????
SERIOUSLY??

Nothing FIFA does surprises me. Especially if the FIFA peace price winner calls for a favor.
Now.... is this a Typo
"price" vs. "prize"
To be fair, I don't pay much attention to soccer.
Nothing wrong with that

Red card is the more serious one where they get kicked out of the game?
Correct.
There are two "variants"
1) 2nd yellow card (2 yellow cards in the same match equals a red card) = out of the current match + next match ban
2) straight red card (irresp. if there was a yellow card beforehand or not) = out of the current match + next match ban + disciplinary action (usually resulting in xx matches ban (plus opt. monetary fine))
the second one is usually given
1) "last man defense" --> opponent with the ball runs "alone" towards your goalkeeper (think "Fastbreak"), and you commit a foul from behind or same line. The same in this case, if the goalkeeper fouls the attacker, preventing a goal.
2) intentional handball (usually preventing a goal and/or high-percentage chance for goal). This applies for the Goalkeeper outside the 16 meter-Box, too!!
3) unsportsman like conduct (the most "infamous" ones: WorldCup 2006 --> Zinedine Zidane's headbutt against Italian's Materazzi or WorldCup 1990 Netherland's Rijkaard's spitting attack against Germany's Rudi Völler)
4) intentional "hard" foul/tackling: usually if you don't have a chance in hell to play the ball, and you aim for your opponent's bones --> the literal translation would be: to intentionally accept an opponent's injury through your actions
There might be other "occasions", but those are the ones i know of

I looked up the red card against Balogun and saw where there's some controversy around the play in real time and the play slowed down. In real time it doesn't look bad but slowed down it looked terrible.
They do the same thing in Football and I absolutely hate it. It's gotten a bit better over the years, but still very annoying. Two different sports though where soccer is more of an effeminate sport; you're not supposed to hit people. Football is sort of designed around hitting people.
The article I read also juxtaposed it to Ronaldo's ban getting suspended so that he was available for the World Cup opener. Obviously, I was reading an American article to try and shed the best light for the American player. My take on it was that I was shocked to see that an organized cartel (FIFA) would alter the circumstances such that it makes for better television.
I realized that my statement about soccer being an effeminate sport can come off as offensive. That's not what I intend, just in comparison to other, rougher sports in the context of penalties related to aggression.
Actually, come to think of it, ice hockey and soccer are almost identical with the former just being a faster paced and more aggressive version of the latter.

I love soccer because of the fast pace action, but yesterday's game was extremely boring.
Norway played too much with the ball, doing nothing but passing on their side of the field, waiting for an opening on the other side to charge in. The first half of the game almost put me to sleep.
Any game can be like that I suppose. Football for example, let's say that it's two teams with wildly different athletic abilities: the one that's not as good might try to implement a run/option heave offense which will drain the clock in hopes of picking up 3-4 yards per play to pick up first downs and get close enough to scoring range while relying on their defense to hold the opposing offense. That isn't the most pleasant football to watch.
