Re: What song are you listening to right now?
I'll admit to watching a few of those pseudo 80s compilations, some of them do take me back to the future!
This one was a particularly good compilation and worth listening to from end to end as long as you can withstand the 80s endless driving vibe. The visuals are quite good too.
At that time I used to drive a Maserati Biturbo that had the sharp-edged 80s looks and the power to go with it. The music is well suited to driving in the rain on any endless motorway.

IF you have any way to download it: Do it, and crank it up in your car.
Pretty much everyone across the board agrees, that this is one of those rare occasions, where the cover is better than the original (as blasphemous as it may sound)

Since i rediscovered Billy Boyd's "The Last Goodbye" recently, the YT-Algorithm recommended this one to me:
Billy Boyd - "The Last Goodbye" - Phedora (rock cover) - The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Very nice. The Guitars sound slightly like U2, but i like it!

Other occasions: Last Kiss by Pearl Jam, Sound of Silence by Disturbed, Word Up by Korn.
Those are just some that come to mind immediately.
Not better - It's My Life by No Doubt over Talk Talk.
Equally as great - Hard Sun by Indio or Eddie Vedder.
I dated someone who either like the cover better than the original or vice versa, opposite of what I liked.
We are no longer together, needless to say!

yeah, but i did write: rare occasions
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Papparazzi - Exit Eden
as for Word Up: i prefer the Version of GUN over Korn

Another cover that is better:
Judas Priest - Diamonds and rust
And I guess, although I don't listen to that type of music the one on the bodyguard, what it's called, I always love you or something like that.

Yes, I had no intention of hijacking the thread topic to covers, just wanted to say a few words.
On Broadway - great classic tune! Enjoy it :-)

You know me too well JB. Am I that transparent?
I do love it when an old beloved band releases a new track.
All Cure tracks have a lovely long intro and I do like that. Some Cure songs you have to hear and hear again in order to like, especially some of their later stuff, many of theirs just reach out and grab you the first time you hear them. This, unfortunately for me, is one of the former. I'm still listening and I love Robert's voice as it pops in as it just takes me home. The song doesn't have that familiar strong underlying and catchy riff that the best of Cure tracks have...
Reserving judgement at the moment but initially not as impressed as I'd prefer to be.
This one, for me, has the same tone but is musically superior.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?
I suppose I like the Cure's trademark Bass line and without that being the dominant theme I tend to lose interest. This track has it all for me, at times sad and at times uplifting, haunting and engendering the resurrection of deep memories of poignant loss. An emotion in music.

This Weekend i'll probably go through the new Nightwish-Album.
Won't be easy, at least according to the first song they released some months ago.
The Mix of the "Vocals" was just..... weird

Re: What song are you listening to right now?
Not a track any of you are likely to have encountered, unless I have posted it here before.
It is just a good track to dance round the kitchen to. Quite long enough to break a sweat if you are vigourous enough. If you know your dance tracks and can also dance yourself then you'll detect a good underlying repetetive beat for you to latch onto.
Needs BASS and VOLUME.

The intro to Alone is definitely long! Kinda surprised me for a first single after a long time, but I guess they were setting up the mood for the album with this one. Not a "radio-friendly unit shifter".

I've given it a few listens and it has definitely grown on me...it feels like a late Side 2 track on an album you love, but you don't listen to much at first since you've been too busy repeating Side 1 over and over...but once you get bored of Side 1 and give Side 2 a deep dive it becomes a loved track... Those types of songs are hard to come by in today's streaming/singles world, and that adds to my surprise that they released it as a first single.
Anyway, album is out now, but I haven't had a chance to give it a listen yet. Based on the first single, I'd wager there's no "Friday, I'm in Love" on it
