    What do the two different "read" indicators mean?

    There's and for new posts. Since the second one goes dark when you click a thread's title and marks it as read, what is the purpose of the first one?

    if you hover the mouse over it you'll get a tooltip which tells you

    "Go to first new post"

    ...but since I clicked on the thread, doesn't that effectively mark it as read?
