vi
I love vi!
It took a while to learn, but all you have to know is when in doubt press ESC.
I can still remember all the keys, even though I haven't used it for almost 6 years. I'll close my eyes and touch some keys at random...
o - open new line below current
d - delete (now much is deleted depends upon the next key)

Well, not much of a fan, but any program that has a "yank" command ("y" or "yy" to yank the line) has to have some merit.

That's what I loved about vi - the sheer intuitiveness of the design.
I mean, logically, whenever some want to move left, the obvious key to press is 'k'. Nad naturally, to move down, you press 'L'.

Whoever designed the vi interface needs a bloody good kicking.
Anyway, emacs is the daddy. vim is prefereable to vi if emacs isn't available.

Getting back to the subject of vi, well, editors anyway, I used to use a DOS editor called Multi Edit now that WAS as good editor. You could configure it to colour comments, reserved words etc by language, you could configure it to connect to your compilers and perhaps best of all it had multiple clipboards - a feature I've never seen since (I haven't actually looked though! )

Don't know if it's the same program, but I have a Windows app called Multi Edit that does just the same. Version 8 I think it is.

And now, from the makers of edlin . . . . [fanfare].... Windows 2000!
But really guys, vi HAS to be the worst. Mind you, I think that about Unix as a whole. Yacc? Grep? Sed? C'mon!

Yeah, slag off Unix why don't you?
UNIX works!
How often do you have to reboot a UNIX server, compared with a Windows one?
And vi is still king

Notepad doesn't count. It's too advanced to count in this argument. vi is the original crappy editor designed by pot heads in the 60's who must have been on something at the time.

I've used vi a couple of times and to be honest I just didnt like it.
I couldnt figure out what the hell I was doing, and most of the time ended up wrecking my text files
Add to that the fact that I was telnetting in across the atlantic to the server, so everything was delayed and bah!
I'm sure its good when you know how to use it

Well I preferred CP/M to Dos! When I got to Dos, copying was backwards to what I'd been using with good ol' PIP.
