Hope someone can help me out here...

Is there any way, which will work in all versions of windows from 98 up (including XP, ME, 2k and 98SE, and NT4), where i can find out either the current internet connection speed, or fastest modem speed, if they are on a modem (obviously this wont work over networks).

I need this because when players register a character on my game, i would like to collect some information from their pc.

This will be ONLY their version of windows, connection speed, processor speed and amount of ram, purely to work out what specifications the game needs.

If this cannot be done i will have to limit myself to a form which they can optionally fill in.
