Not so easy but important! (What does "PHP" stands for?)

Hi all,
tomorrow (14th of Sept, 13:00 CET DST) I have a presentation about PHP. - Thats not the problem.

I have to tell them how to install servers, how do program with PHP and so on - thats not the problem either.

But when some strange person comes to the idea to ask me what does "PHP" stands for I am f***** - and thats not nice...

So please help me!
On the PHP-Site I didn't find anything. Looking up PHP in Babylon brought 5 different explanations!

PHP (officially "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor") is a server-side HTML-embedded scripting language

Thanks, but what does the first P mean, when HP = "Hypertext Preprocessor" ?

Somewhere I red "Personal Homepage Tools" and "Personal HomePage". Are this older names?

I really couldn't tell you as the php manual doesn't explain it either. this is all they say is PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. All my books don't say anyhting about it either. I think they just stuck it in there. I think it was suppose to mean phtml since that is what it's doing, preprocessing hypertext. but that is my opinion, since I have no proof.

I believe it was originally "Personal Home Page", but they changed the name when it gained lots more features. I think it originally was made to embed some C-ish macros into HTML pages.

Yeah, it was first called Personel Home Page, and then later changed to Hypertext PreProcessor

It is RECURSIVE!

And I hope I spelled that correctly.

PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Processor.

The First P stands for PHP which stands for PHP: Hypertext Processor, in which the first P stands for PHP....

GNU stands for GNU Not Unix
PINE stands for PINE is Not Elm (I think)

There are other examples, but they escape me at the moment. PHP is a recursive abreviation.

I red somewhere only "Personal HomePage" and Josh said the same...

Infact it is confusing.

PHP did start life meaning Perl Home Pages and Personal Home Pages. But as it grew, PHP: Hypertext Processor was adopted and is now the "official" meaning.

This history mentions Personal Home Page Tools, but the site credits PHP as standing for PHP: Hypertext Processor. This site is endorsed by the author of PHP, Rasmus Lerdorf.

That is the official home of PHP
