    Post Don't take NWA

Hi people. Whenever you travel on Air. Don't buy airtickets from NWA(Northwest Airlines). You just don't know what they do here in Shanghai Office. Let's tell their Headquarters!
    http://www.nwa.com

They are not even responsible for our Fees here in the Hotel!!! And even worse. We have to wait for like at least 5 days!! And the price is killing me., well us..... We have a bunch of people here in Shanghai Internation Convention Center. It costs 180 bucks, USD, for 1 day

    Let's tell them!

If the airline causes you to be stranded somewhere they do have to pay for hotel fees to put you up.
They should also provide food money / stamps/tokens.

    Post You are 100% right

Yes, I believe that's the Law too. But the thing is that they've only payed for 1 day. and they just told us to pay for ourselves today... and it's really expensive. Do you know any ideas?

    Post They don't care.

We have a bunch of people here in the Hotel. About nearly 300 people. And they say the latest flight maybe available on the 15th. and we still have to pay for our own fees... They don't give a **** about it... I've already sent an email to their Headquarters at the US about this... Don't know what they will say...

Well what I would do is as follows,

Tell the hotel that you want to stay for 10 days so, or until the next flight, and you want to clear the bill when you leave.
So you can stay there free in the meantime.

Then once the time comes to clear the bill, you go to reception and tell them that the airline is picking up the bill.
They of course will refuse and the manager will come out and scream his head off at you.
They then take your passport details and let you go on your way.

Thats what I did when I was stranded in Spain, and I never got a bill.

I believe that under the Warsaw Convention

an airline is liable for damage occasioned by delay in the carriage by air of passengers....the airline concerned is not liable if it proves that it and its servants or agents have taken all necessary measures to avoid the damage or that it was impossible for it or them to take such measures
This is based on info at http://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/1...16/0616241.htm

    Tom

    1. Do you not have any travel insurance?

    2. Exploit the fact that you are 12 years old. Just tell them you haven't got any money and your only option is to sleep on the streets! I'm sure the PR implications of this would not bear thinking about for them.

They will take your passport if you do that! I need my passport. I want NWA to pay for all the expenses.

Well, Tom, I can only assume that the airline are arguing "it and its servants or agents have taken all necessary measures to avoid the damage or that it was impossible for it or them to take such measures"

As they can hardly be blamed for the decision to close US Airspace

I doubt the airline are arguing anything.
    They're probably just saying no.

    Nice plan.

Just curious as to how much free accommodation you achieved when you tried it?

The airline (Iberia) had already given us rooms for free.

It was free food, long telephone call to my girlfriend and mother (thats Spain to Ireland), and also porno channels on the telly.

    Its funny though.
In the morning when I went down to hand in the keycard to the room, they hand me this huge bill.

And I only had maybe enough to maybe buy a can of coke on me

Yeah good point ! Hope on over to the embassy and they should be able to tell you what to do. And if you need a few marines to muscle the hotel into submission I'm sure they'll have a few free for that too

    Dear Tom Zhang,
Thank you for your recent E-mail.

When Northwest Airlines is responsible for canceling a flight then we do
pay for hotels, however this is a National Disaster and the canceled
flights are mandated by the FAA. Northwest, as a gesture of goodwill,
paid for your first night. We as a company cannot afford to pay for
hotel accommodations for all stranded passengers. There are thousands of
    them.

This National disaster has been a burden on all of us, especially those
families that lost loved ones from this violent act of terrorism.

I am sorry, Mr. Zang, but we cannot pay for your hotel.
Thank you for writing to Northwest about your concern.
    Sincerely,

    Kathy Kuder
    Customer Action Representative
    Northwest/KLM Airlines
That's what they returned to me. And they called me Zang!!! Instead of Zhang

    well two words "travel insurance"
And secondly i think u should give urself a good kick up the khyber for expecting them to pay ur hotel especially considering the circumstances ... i think ur problem is small in comparison to the many victims and their families???

They have a point. They only pay up when they have to when it is their fault. The FAA closed all airpspace, it wasn't their fault, so they ain't ganna pay up

Just of note, NWA was the name of Dr. Dre's rap group back in thelate 80s/early 90s. It stands for N*ggaz With Attitude

    I'm bringing geeky back...
