take a look at http://www.clanpoint.net/secret/news.php and then you look at your own site, whats missing on yours is what you can call a 'dress' in other words... your site lacks eye candy =)

nah, i'd rather make the website by myself. then i could call it "my own". but out of curiosity what did you make your website with? did you use strait notepad (that's what I did) or are you using something else?

If you're looking for a simple site you can't beat the bottom-and-top of the page nav bars (not frames though!)... What I mean is having your page look somewhat like this:
Code:
ADT's Visual Basic (little banner-thing)
news | code | links | contact | projects | downloads
Hi Welcome to my site
News Items for this week
Sept. 9th
Hi my site is up!!!
news | code | links | contact | projects | downloads
Of course, it looks way off there, but with the general idea you could go far... or I could give you the source for a menu system, you can see the one I did (all my code btw) at http://times.of.war.tripod.com/
It's at the top, gold, can't miss it...
Anyways if you really want to make it your own try messing with the first idea... and remember get out of frames...
Ah and for refrence I use notepad.

Tables're nice too... though stay away from all-flash pages! They suck, and they're nice & slow.

There was some absolutely HUGE reason that topcities is a problem, I can't remember for the life of me though.

what do you mean what do i mean by that? i meant what i said. are you saying that my left colum on my webisite is compilcated?! weren't you talking about plain text bars (or graphics which arent hard) at the bottom and top page? that seems over simple. i had a site like that once. it wasn't even half of what my current one is now.
also what about a problem at topcities.com? i checked it out and it seemed pretty good but if there's a problem i would like to know about it before i move my website there.
thanks a ton for the input guys.

I use topcities only to store some zip and exe because Liquid2k won't let me upload zip and exe. For moment I never got any problem.

Yeah, like the red cross in the white page (or: the image won't show )
To sastraxi: maybe it has something to do with XenoBar (which disables popups and stuff)...
[edit]
weird, if I open the geocities gfx folder the image does show...
anyways, looks not too bad, maybe change the color of the caption to a slightly darker shade to make it a little more readable... but nice colors anyways!

Well, you could for example make a menu bar in those colors, then use something like white or a very bright other color for the background... maybe make something like windows in a similar color scheme to contain the text (not windows as in MS Windows, windows like in any OS with a GUI )...
Offcourse you can totally disagree with me, I'm not a guru, just another simple human being which knows HTML...

Hovering gives a nice effect, don't create it so that if someone's using a browser that doesn't support the hovering the whole page doesn't work anymore. Just create it as an extra to those people who do have the latest browser...
