going to uni (scaring the **** out of me)
Hi
just wondered who else is off to uni this year, or has been to uni before, i am off to Aberystwyth (wales) on the 21st and i am finding the whole thought of it quite daunting at the minute, at first i thought that it was cool, but now the time is getting nearer i am a little worried, all of my friends that went to uni last year said that it was cool, but they had family to back them up if they had problems, all i have is myself. and i can't even turn to my friend "Alcohol" at the minute as it is buggering about with my heart and me tablets . oh well i have one thing that is keeping me sane (Dean ponders for a second, i am sane ???), everyone else going this year is in the same boat, and i suppose it can be fun
thanks for listening (or reading as the case may be)
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

Good luck to ya both!
Don't worry about Uni, it's great fun (even without booze). It's not like school, you get far more interesting lectures, and alot more lee-way. Oh, yeah and plenty of sex.
Money is always a problem (I was skint all the way), but all your mates are in the same way, so you find plenty of cheap ways to amuse yourself (playing monopoly or risk to the following morning), trying to throw water bombs out of your window into the oppossing halls of residence, sex, etc.

Monday Morning Lunatic
Have fun, Dean! I'll be joining the world of work for a year, before joining the fun at Uni

Here's an oldie's advice
I'm going to sound really old here: I finished uni before you were born. OK that said, here's my advice.
Regardless of what you're going to study, KEEP UP TO DATE. Get your tuts and reports and papers and stuff done in time. I fell into the trap many times, of glancing thru a tut (I'm a Civil Engineer) and thinking, Oh no sweat this is easy and putting it aside. Then when it was due, I found it was an hour's work not 10 mins. Or 4 hours not one, or whatever.
Make sure you keep your admin up to date: file each day's notes and that sort of of boring stuff. Miss a lecture?- get the notes from someone pronto. Trust me. When it comes to time to do the work, you'll have the material handy.
Got problems? see someone! A counsellor, a senior student, a tutor. My not doing that, plagues me to this day, so I've no room to talk but I've got brilliant hindsight!
And most of all, enjoy it. It's an amazing experience: do the things you want to- whatever they are. Parties, debates, enviro-club or whatever it's called this year, mountaineering, sport, all those things. Even drink a pint or two. Or twelve, what the hell!
Good Luck to you all.

Dean, I'm sure it'll be fine, although it is scary to think that in 2 weeks time life will never be the same again. But like you said, we're all in the same boat. You'll make new friends soon enough, its not like anyone is gonna know many people at first anyway. Even if you do have any problems, you can still phone home (and you can write total nonsense here)

Good luck mate.. Its fine.. you will find it daunting for the first week (but it will be because you will be so damn drunk that you will wonder if you will wake up in time for lectures!).
You'll do fine as long as you relax and just have fun!

Dean, bit of advise, try not to mix your hard drugs. You will miss a lot of lessons...

You're going to Wales, yet it's Uni you're concerned about? You've got your priorities wrong there...
Since you seem to have survived the first few days you've probably already realised this, but the best advice I can give you is to keep your hair short and never wear a sheepskin coat. Good advice everywhere, of course, but Wales is somewhere where you particularly don't want to get mistaken for a sheep...
