Netscape Installation
Hi.
I just installed Netscape 6.1. First you download an "exe" and when you run it, it installs the new app. I know that I can delete the initial "exe", but is there anything to delete other than that file after the installation is finished? It did a lot of downloading and I don't want any unneeded junk on my PC.
Thanks.

How about your c:\win98\temp folder?

It should've downloaded to a temporary directory. If it didn't, it downloaded a single install file, which is really just a bundle of other files.
You might be able to do a search on n*.exe or the like that was created in the last day.

Why would you download Nutscrape, especially crappy 6? Try the GNU Mozilla if you won't give in to the evil empire at http://www.mozilla.org

Temp folder
Parksie, there's a bunch of junk in the "temp" folder: tmp's, upd's and some exe's, as well as some folders.
Isn't there a Windows utility that cleans this folder out?
CiberTHug, I'll check out your suggestion.
Thanks.

I know you can do it manually in Windows Explorer, but I thought that there was utility that would check your system for unnecessary temp files and delete them? Does such a thing exist?

Search the hard drive for *.tmp, and delete everything in c:\windowsdir\temp and c:\temp, and, in Windows 2000, c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temp for all users (like Administrator, Default User, your name, All Users, etc.).

Mozilla is the open source project that shares the engine that Netscape (formerly Netscape Navigator) uses. I'm not sure how the term Gecko comes into play. I would recommend Mozilla over Netscape just in an attempt to avoid AIM.
There are many web browsers out there to chose from. Might I suggest Opera. I have nothing against ICQ.

I think Raptor is the interface onto Gecko.

all the files that NS6 downloaded to install (xpi) files you can delete. all files .tmp you can delete. you can also use disk cleanup in win98 under system tools and it deletes .dll files that are no longer being used by anything. but I don't trust that program as I do it all by myself.
