    yeah they could buy unix. there's a company that owns the intellectual rights to it. cant remember the name ... has an X in it though

    There's the X Consortium, but they do X Windows not Unix.

    They didn't buy Unix, but they tried to buy something like that.

    If M$ want to make a version of Unix I don't think there's anything stopping them. They can't prevent others from doing the same though.

    Nah there is some company that owns the rights tho.

    Koz I saw it on the front of a Sco Unix box.

    As I understand it, Unix is open-source due to some ancient legal thing that was intended to prevent a Unix monopoly. If Unix has already been made available through an open license, the intellectual property isn't incredibly valuable because other companies can make their own Unix versions.
