new to this forum...
Hello,
I have only visited this forum for the last month or so, but I have already found it extremly useful. Thanks to everyone who contributes!
Anyway, when I visit this site from my university (with a really really fast internet connection, running Unix and Netscape 4) the pages loads painfully slow. It usually takes 30 seconds or more to bring up a page.. I don't think it is the download that is slow, but Netscape to generate the page.. It goes much faster when I sit at home with a 33.6k modem an IE5..

When the style is set to VB-World, the pages load slow, John, the administrator of these boards mentioned it may be because of the javascript.
Unfortunately, he cannot do anything about it because of About.com.
But if you change your style to VBSquare, there is no About.com and the pages load a bit faster. Only problem is, you get logged out sometimes, and you go back into VB-World style, until you log back in.

Well ...
I think Netscape is just too slow. One of our company's pages, developed in ASP took more than 2 hours to load in Netscape.

Whether it's ASP or HTML shouldn't make any difference to the browser.
But 2 hours?
I don't use NS anyway for normal browsing.

I think there's still a set of users.
I *may* trial out NS6 when it appears in a usable form. I like the layout engine, but the interface its in is WAY to big and slow.

Hmmm...will take another look then...it appeared to be in C++ if the source code was anything to go by. Looks like somebody's arsing around with people's minds here.
Don't they realise that Java is NOT for anything where performance is important (such as a browser ). If I could just have Gecko, then that would be great.

Hmmm.... in what situation is performance not important? None come to mind, but maybe I'm nuts because its 4:32 a.m.
