    OSs

Is there a windows-compatible OS out there that will run my DX accelerated games with hardware acceleration? All I'm looking for is stability, compatibilty, and speed. I can be perfectly happy with a little C: prompt.
BTW, Thanks for all your help

Just because a product might be a little overpriced doesn't mean it's great. no IIS is not the greatest web server, and windows me is not the greatest OS. But, being as closed minded as you are, you probably haven't looked at Windows 2000, Office XP (which btw is great and, for a change, is actually FASTER than 2k was).

Microsoft have made some good stuff. Visual C++ springs instantly to mind

Loads of people have a go at MS about Outlook and security. Why do people exploit the flaws in it? Because it's heavily used! You cannot blame MS (morally, or legally - look at the licence agreement ) for your own stupidity in opening random attachments.

LOL, settle down, mate. The "j/k " was to show what side of the debate I'm on. Incidentally, IIS is the best Web server (if you do it right). It's newbie MCSE's who are making the rest of us look bad. Oh well.

No server is the "best" server. It's fairly widely known that Apache is the best general purpose server, but IIS is a lot easier to set up. Servers like Xitami have a performance advantage over Apache and IIS.

Also, IIS is much better if you HAVE to use NT - and I think a combination of IIS and BackOffice is pretty hefty

It's like terrorists. Are you going to bomb a small Indian tribe in the middle of the Amazon, or the middle of traffic in New York City to get your message across?

That, and VBA makes it a lot easier to spread viruses. But VBA does far more good than harm.

Notice how he has evil red eyes (to exemplify his evilness) and 666 written on him (to show his relation to satan, further exemplification of evilness).

    I couldn't agree more

Every technology has the potential for harm, so a modicum of user intelligence is required. I mean, if I run a .vbs file without looking inside it first, then it's my fault if it does something nasty.

Fair enough. For my purposes, it's the best server, how's that?

Yes, but for performance you often sacrifice simplicity and functionality; very few Web sites can be run just with client-side processing.

Xitami supports CGI, that enough for you?
For my purposes, it's the best server, how's that?
That's fine - with things like this I try and move away from an absolute "this is the best" to a relative "this is the best for my purposes" argument. I don't use IIS because I don't want to jam up my other PC, and plus Apache is what my target server uses, therefore I develop with that. If the target used IIS I'd set that up.

Why not? Write your back end in C++ - much faster and a lot easier on the server

    Although:

IIS - ASP is natively handled: faster than PHP
Apache/mod_php&mod_perl - Perl/PHP natively handled: faster than ChiliASP (ASP interpreted via CGI execution)

And JSP is a bit of a strange beast...

I'd tend to avoid ASP, PHP, and CGI as much as I can, because they are still compiled at run time which makes them inherently slow.

CGI is an interface. If you use Perl for it, then yes it will be interpreted. If you use Assembler it will be run like any other program. That's what it's for You don't have to worry about language - it all appears in the same way, you just have to know how to get at it from your language.
