I know this is frequently asked question but is anybody working on any projects that they could use some help and insight on, I am really board and have (code)writers block and cannot think of anything worthwhile and distributable (if that's a word :P) to do. I really think I know my VB but have nothing to prove it, I'm not trying to earn money just want to have my name on something and get someone's opinion on my work, and to show me what I do wrong. Thanks in advance (hopefully).

This morning I receiced this email :
"I only 17 but been programming for 2 years I've tought myself and know doing A-level computing but I need something to extend my knowledge and a group looks the best way. I donn't want to get paid I just want to work on a good project. I'm a quick learner with a good imagination with resonable all round skills looking to jion a group I can help contribute plenty of ideas if you've got a start.
Rob"
And my answer :
I'm glad you want to join the group Rob. Your age doesn't matter...As a matter of fact I'm only 16 ;-)
It's also great that you have a good imagination. We'll need that, whatever the project turns out to be. Any ideas by the way?
Welcome to the group Rob

Hi my name is Bob, I'm 18, and I like to break dance, read, and program. Someday I want to cure AIDS and end famine. As you can see, I look good in a bathing suit, and I have many diverse talents, so I think I should win the... Oops, wrong application.
In any case, I'm interested in working on a project. I'm game for anything.

Well Bob. I think you can concider yourself as a member of the group now.
By the way... I think we're enough to go start up the group now. But first, we gotta figure out some sort of project which of cource is rather important before we continue. So, start thinking !! And remember...Almost anything is possible...

Sorry Ruban
I didn't see your reply, which you posted 2 minutes before I submitted mine.
Which project should we choose ??
I don't know what we are going to do, and I almost doesn't care, as long as it's fun and challeging. I'm very interested in LAN also, but I don't want to choose for the whole group. What should we make? A shell replacement? Help Ruban with his network project? Something else?
Post your comments please...

Hi there Seth and Ruben;
I really liked both ideas, although I must confess the idea of working on the 'alternative shell' thing really got my 100% approval. But I'd love to work with the other project too... So... Why don't we set up a meeting on a chat room or maybe email each other a long email with all the details? Hope to hear from you all soon.
Thanx

Chat discussion
I also think we should meet in some chatroom and discuss which project to choose. Of course we might run into problems with that not anyone can be online at the same time. I have myself not internet access at home, only here at school, and of cource I have to do other things here than just surf the net all day But if we can arrange something, it would be great. Or else, we can always do it the hard way...
PS : Thanks for the details Ruben

the windows shell thing idea is nice. Let's gear it toward a specific group of people. Personally, I think it'd be neat to develop a programming specific shell, one that is geared toward programming, with maybe a window showing running tasks, API calls, window names, etc, easily accessible editors, compilers, etc. that'd be really neat.
Another thing that would be more marketable would be perhaps a shell toward the computer challenged. Something that lets them do --ooh this is it. this is really what we should do-- have some buttons that do just a few things. One button is a document editor, simple yet functional. another piece is a spreadsheet, and the third is internet and mail. fourth would be the music thing, like a downloader/player. That's all it would do. (unless you can think of something else the morons do on their wasted machines).
Oh, I have to say that last night I breathed energy into a terrible dance when I requested 2 unlimited's Get Ready For This, and busted out some phat breakdancing, including a perfectly executed transition I have never gotten before in practice. There were a lot of dropped jaws. It was neat.
Finally, I'm working on a project, and I need some people to test it. I'm using VB 6.0, so if you have that and want to test it, email me. It's an incredible program that I use all the time when I get on the net.

No start menu crap. If this is going to replace explorer, how 'bout if it starts up and bypasses explorer? We can always have an option inside our shell to leave and go into the explorer shell.

I am 19 and work at a small internet bussiness software company, currently I am writing ActiveX+ASP for a dianostic page for one of our larger products, most of my skills are put to use here, VC++, VB, ASP, HTML, VB/JavaScripting, Hardware, some Java, etc but one of the things that we got slowly moving is a VPN network controls that allow a VPN through the browsers, the core of it is written in VC++ that I did in ActiveX, dis most of the example and other works in VB, and they have me on Active Server Pages other times, but I guess the thing is that I use all the skills I have and combine them to create a major product(normally at a larger company they'll stick you to one language and keep you there) but things I've created are mainly middleware productions or utilities to accompany the larger product. So if you want to know a few things about Database(SQL) in connection with network programming I might know a few things to tell you.

I have a project that I am looking for someone to help me on. It is posted as Help!! in the Projects Requests. It is just a few threads above yours. Look at it and see if this might be something you are interested in.

Hi Griztko, I'm from the Netherlands and I have about 1/1.5 years experience with VB (Used VB5 Enterprise and now VB6 Enterprise)
I could evaluate your app and tell you what's wrong.
I'm not a professional programmer but I do know the basics (and also some advanced stuff) of the language.
I could always evaluate it (and give, when it's wrong, a better code or some addresses you could go for the good code)

Hey Grizlko, do you have money, and a creditcard (or debit card that can be used as a VISa etc) and arnt any laws in your country to prevent you from buying stuff outside, if so try bookpool.com sometimes, they have the lowest prices on technical books. I am uncertain where they can ship, but it does sound international.
