Professional ideas ??

I'm a Jr in college (majoring in computer science of course)
I need some extra money, and I've done VB for 3 years now, and feel i can do almost anything i want with it. I know theres got to be some kind of program i could write that people would actually want (and buy from me). But i have no clue as to what i could do. Does anybody have any advice for me. (or need any help on a paying project

Of all my years of programming, there is one fact. Businesses love it when you have it as a skill, but it's not a paying language. Its more for fun then anything.

C++ Programmers are what people want. That and assemblers. If you want to get into gamming, those two are what you should get to know. Like I said, VB is a plus in a business, but it's not what people will hire you for.

I use VB6 and I have a business i'm trying to get started with a friend. And I found out the hard way that VB is too bulky of a program for high end programs. (Operating Systems, Internet Servers, etc...) I had to start learning Assembler and C++ for that type of thing. Gameing companies hire Delphi and C++ programmers for their games. (Some turbo pascal too..)

You starting to see the pattern? VB is just too bulky. Plus, MS has WAY too many copyrights that a programmer has to go through to use VB in commercial applications. It's not worth it.

Well, I hope my input helps you out. You can take it or leave it. It doesn't bother me.. hehe...

I think he means licensing issues. If you got VB pro or enterprise and are careful, you can distribute whatever you want. http://www.mvps.org/vbnet/faq/main/redistribution.htm

Yes filburt1 is correct. I meant liscensing. You can make any program you want for any commercial business. However, make sure that you understand the liscensing involved before you go out and start making money off of CONTROLS that you didn't make.

That is all I was talking about.
