Since I don't have a version of QuickBasic (QB) on my most recent laptop (Win10), and no virtual machines set up yet on it, so I download and installed QB64, http://www.qb64.net/ ,as that would be the quickest way to get a QB (mostly compatible) compiler to try it with.
No installation really, just unzip the download and run QB64.exe.
It loaded the program in and compiled it and it ran fine.

I haven't looked at the VB6 version yet (I'll give it a quick look before I call it a night), so don't know if it was implemented any differently than your QB version, from a user interface perspective, (specifically, use the mouse to select the column to drop in rather than or in addition to using the keys 1 to 7).

Going to VB.Net from VB6 should be a lot less work than going to QB, assuming you're a little familiar with graphics in VB.Net.
