Just a post to say...
THANK YOU.
In the past few weeks I've had to up my game at work to cover for a sick colleague. VB is not my forte, yet with your direct help and indirectly via other topics, I've achieved some awesome things.
I've:
- automated all 8 daily reports I used to have to open, change date, run, wait, save, email. This saves me about 45 mins each day.
- created a self-refreshing dashboard for my directors to keep an eye on KPIs at any time they want, rather than wait a day/week for the summary reports. In fact, the original report was 2.5mb, my Excel dashboard, including charts, is just 64.5kb. Granted, I stripped out anything other than key figures, but still good.
- stopped my company buying licenses/software/support for Tableau and another 3rd party software that incorporated R, Excel, Business Objects and SQL. This, over the years, will save the business several hundred thousand pounds over the year.
- calculated that I can save my colleagues a total of about 40 hours of report running per week by automation. Tomorrow I have been invited to my board of directors to put this to them. I'm told a bonus will be agreed if I can pull it off. I've never got a bonus before and my board didn't know I existed before this last week.
It's inspired me to look for more creative things to do. Sometimes I've asked, on reflection, some dumb questions to people who are clearly very talented, yet they've always been patient. I'm sure this trend will continue!
So, genuinely, thank you. Sorry for the long post but I sometimes think appreciation isn't always shown in forums.

Moderator Hat: Thread moved from VB .NET forums to Chit-Chat.
Member Hat: I'm glad to see that all the member that helped made an impact on you. Hopefully when you can start answering some questions of your own you'll help somebody out who is in the position that you were in at one time.

Thanks for the thanks. I think for most of us the biggest thrill is watching someone else blossom. We watch enough people walk away having gained nothing so when someone engages and gets something out of the forum it's a real treat.
Now, about my share of that bonus...
