Dial Up Networking Problems...
I have a question about Dial-Up networking... I just reinstalled my modem, and now it shows me the wrong speed when I am connected. It shows the port speed of 115,200 bps instead of the usual 44,666 bps. Does anyone know what is causing this? I can't check/uncheck the "only connect at this speed" because it is disabled.
Thanks for any help

Next time take this to www.pctsonline.com, inhabited by the same folks we have at VB-world (lot of regulars are on there).
Anyway, there should be a setting it's reading a setting that is in the control panel been forever since i used dialup but there should be a setting in there 14400 - 28800 - 48800 - 56000 - and then the setting that you are seeing it's easy to change should be in the setting screen.

I can't find the setting. And I don't really want to go to another site and sign up. It takes too much effort for just one question. I rather just ask it here where I know people. It's not like it really matters because I posted in Chit Chat and that's the point of chit chat, all off topic posts. Is there anyone else, that uses Dial-up, or knows what's going on, that can help me?
Thanks again

as far as I know you can't change it. you are right that is the port speed but that is what the modem is sending back as the connect speed. that is internal to the modem. it also depends on the brand and the drivers. I think it is in the bios of the modem, if you update it it might change.
if you download something, check to see what it is downloadeing at 4.6k/s or 5.5k/s as this will tell you what you are connect at, usually. that is what I go by. I know that is is not the best way as the sites server may be slow but do it somewhere you know is good and fast.
what is this like the 15th or 20th hardware question in the past 2 weeks, I think we are getting close to having a forum,,,, hint hint

I think people have already asked about this. It never came to be apparently, so I might as well ask in chit chat. I guess I'll have to look for new drivers on the internet somewhere. Stupid computer. It's not even mine, it's my girlfriends, and I can't get access to it right now. I don't even know what kind of modem she has.
Thanks anyway
