    Unhappy can someone pleeeeeeeeeeeease help!

ok, i just got my (new) montego II sound card, and i popped it into my comp, and set it up accoring to the instructions on www.vortexofsound.com for windows 2k. i get no sound. at all. same thing happened before (except under windows 98), thats the reason why i returned it.

anyone have any clue? i know its not my motherboard, because it worked once upon a time. this is the 3rd time ive returned it, and i dont think it's defective...because diagnostics say otherwise.

also, whats a good sound card for under $100?..needs to supports A3D and 4 speakers (if it can't, still tell me). i tried going a couple of other forums and asking, because are 455h0l35. and the place i bought it from (www.mwave.com), their tech support didnt help much...

    -nabeel

[Edit] i also tried NT4 drivers, and those didnt work either

make sure your speaker is not on mute and other stuff as well. sometimes these get changed for some unknown reason. I think the sound blaster live rocks. I am pretty sure it supports surround sound and 4 speakers.

sounds good, but the SB Live might do all that and 3/4 the cost.

SB Live! Value (what came with my Dell) is excellent. It has digital out, and normal stereo input/output, as well as rear output. And I have some nice speakers to complement it.

It supports EAX, but you'll never use those 3D accelerations anyway; DirectSound 3D takes care of it.

I couldn't find it at Outpost.com (their search engine and delivery carrier both suck, but they themselves rock ): http://www.soundblaster.com/products...me.asp?print=1

    A3D is coooooooool

EAX can do some freaky stuff, too. But A3D is emulation, so therefore, it sucks, ESPECIALLY on just stereo sound cards.
